Asperger's sufferer Scott James to become X Factor sensation
An X Factor contestant with Asperger syndrome will become an overnight star when the new series starts later this month. Scott James, 21, tells judges he didn’t leave home for seven years because of the condition, which makes it hard for him to socialise.
But when he starts to sing, the judges are stunned by his voice. Music allowed Scott to escape from exile in his bedroom and his performance is tipped to be one of the highlights of the series. He is likely to be compared with Susan Boyle, who found fame on Britain’s Got Talent after living a sheltered life.
X Factor judge Dannii Minogue said Scott’s audition was amazing. She said: “He came on stage and told us he hadn’t left the house for seven years because of his Asperger’s and being picked on.
“Then he started singing. You will not believe his performance.”
Before the audition, only the locals in Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, knew of Scott’s amazing singing voice. Parents Ken and Sharon took him to a studio to make a CD for friends. Studio boss Mike Frankland said: “The first time we heard him sing we were in tears.”
Scott wowed the X Factor judges with You Raise Me Up. Viewers will also see him sing Katy Perry’s Hot ’n’ Cold and Faith Hill’s There You’ll Be. But they will have to wait until later in the series to see if he makes it through boot camp. |

Looks like this year's sob story 
I bet one of the judges will do that so called crying and then soft music will play when the guy walks out of the audition room being dived on by his family.

I think so indeed. On the other hand, there is no reason why an AS person shoudln't be on X factor or the liek, but it's the oh-so-special treatment that annoys me. |

Men files and factor topic
I thought X-factor was a sci fi show to be aired in the fall. I do not watch talent contests. Not since CHCH's Tiny Talent Time, and believe me, the talent was infinitesimally tiny.

I like the way the OP put "sufferer" in quotes... I don't suffer from aspergers, I thrive on it... aspergers makes me smarter than the average bear, able to think outside the box, able to ignore distractions, and see right through the BS to arrive at the truth...
I like my aspergers, and wouldn't trade it for anything

The only X-Factor I know of is the comic book, written currently by Peter David. And so far as I know, there are no autistic characters in X-Factor (Shatterstar doesn't count, he's not even from the same dimension as everyone else).
Now, Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane), who was with X-Factor for a while, is I believe back with her former New Mutant compatriots, and I understand that they have recently encountered Prof. Xavier's son Legion; however, last I saw, the writers had stopped referring to Legion's fugue-withdrawal state as "autistic" sometime in the Eighties (induced as it was by psychic overload, as Legion was telepathically linked with a large number of passengers on a crashing airliner)...

Yeah, totally going to happen. X-factor is SOOO predictable. Let me guess, they will also put about 10 lame auditions on before him, moan about what an awful day it has been and then suddenly, there he is! They do that all the time on both X-factor AND Britain's got talent! Really annoys me! Good luck to him though!

American Idol does that too
I think that his "suffering" is being blown out of proportion somewhat (reality shows do that though), but people cope differently with their diagnoses, and bullying really doesn't help. I know that I was much more withdrawn and hid a lot when I was being bullied. I don't know, I'll just have to wait and see what happens, maybe he might not be such a reality tv cliche.
