Wow... I can't believe this story is true. That teacher will definitely lose her job and hopefully never teach again.(after the court hearing since the school board seem like a bunch of idiots)

When I was in primary school, a group of girls got together and started a petition for people to sign up and ignore me. Three kids in my small school (there were ninety seven pupils there) did not sign the petition, a few were tricked into signing.

The difference is that when my teachers found out, every single one of those children had a letter home from their parents, there was a staff meeting, a lot of support for me, and the ring leaders were excluded.

For a teacher to be involved in this kind of thing is unbelievable. This person should never, ever teach again.

I found the following on the net:

Portillo appealed and the St. Lucie County School Board decided Wednesday to affirm her suspension, which lasts until November, but reinstate Portillo’s tenure upon her return. Portillo is guaranteed a teaching position with the school district at the end of her suspension, reports WPTV, the West Palm Beach, Fla. NBC affiliate.

I thought this was going to be something bad like the little boy bringing a gun to school and start shooting people. Hey a six year old has done it except that kid shot one student in his class.

Melissa Barton said that on May 21, 2008, her son Alex was "forced to stand in front of his peers and be told why 'they hated him,' with such comments as [Alex] is 'disgusting' and 'annoying,' 'He eats crayons,' 'Lies on the floor,' 'He eats paper' and 'He
eats his boogers."'

Barton didn't return to the class and finished the year in homeschooling, and has since been diagnosed with a form of autism called Asperger's syndrome, which may have caused his behavior.

...that sounds like typical childhood behaviour to me?

Or maybe I didn't have a typical childhood =/

Those sounds like unusual behavior to me. Maybe it looks typical to you because you did those things?

I know most people eat their boogers but they don't do it in public.

Agreed...

I'll admit I did all those things. I definitely WAS NOT a normal kid...

That's the cruelest thing I've heard in an age. That teacher should have been getting him some damn HELP, not siding with the kids who bullied him and humiliating him in front of the class.

I think if I were in charge there I'd fire that teacher and give out severe punishment to those kids.

it makes me so angry to read this. it's exactly the type of treatment my son got, and the people who should have been helping him humiliated him and pressured him into more bad behavior.

the teacher who tortured my son and made inappropriate remarks to other kids in the class still teaches, in spite of the complaints I filed and the so-called "investigation" the school board carried out (since me and my son weren't contacted, I know there was no investigation).

yeah, there are teachers out there who are complete idiots who shouldn't be allowed near children.

and it seems there is nothing us parents can do to protect our kids from them.

It's basically impossible to fire a teacher in the union what ever they do. There are a lot worse things teachers have done believe it or not who end up just collecting a paycheck. It's one of the biggest problems in our school systems.

Typical for many children but not for a responsible adult. The woman is stunted emotionally.

Well I am glad that it has ended in the school landing in the hot water of a lawsuit, I am unhappy that it occured in the first place.
