This was a very good video, one of the best I've seen used to combat Autism Speaks.

Is there a Youtube version of Ne'eman's response? I can't get the video on that page to work.

That's what I'd like to know too. :?
I only watched the first minute of the I Am Autism video. I couldn't watch any longer. It was terrible and scary.
I LOVE the "No Myths" video. It's short and to the point. It has autistic people talking about autism. It shows the upsides of autism. It shows that autistics can be successful-like the woman who is wife, mom, writer, social worker and activist, and the boy who's a mathematician and a scholar.
Like the boy said (I'm paraphrasing) with the right supports, autistics can do anything anybody else can do, even if it isn't in the same way.

I noticed your signature, with its quotation from Shakti Gawain.

I suspect what goes through their heads is an association between autism and the
Unseelie Court.
The Unseelie Court are those evil fairy folk that are said to kidnap children and leave a changeling
behind in place of the child parents thought they knew. Because the changeling is not the
child they knew, these people presume they have no child at all; no bread is better than
half a loaf from their point of view.
I suspect that this statement may not be factually true, but myths , like this one,
speak to a place where facts cannot reach.

As for the video by Autism Speaks: awright, BRING IT ON!
If autistics don't advocate for themselves, we concede the
whole argument to Autism Speaks and their kind.
Let's never allow that to happen.

In a play on words:
So then, they wind up un-seeing their kid, of course.

Thanks. I'd wager that no matter one's spiritual beliefs, or even if there's none, the principle is true: just look at the various threads in this website where people are drained dry from trying to be, or are pushed and harangued, into being like people without ASD.

This kind of thing could drive an autistic kid to want to commit suicide. Can you imagine the overwhelming fear and the guilt that they could be destroying the people they love the most, their parents?

I gave Autism Speaks the benefit of a doubt but I now think they generally feel it's better to be dead than autistic.

Judging by that video, the writer and narrator both seemed to have fun sounding like mass murderers... :?

That made me want to check. Yes, it's for real.

http://www.autismspeaks.org/press/unite ... m_2009.php

Quote:
Academy Award-nominated director Alfonso Cuarón and Grammy-nominated songwriter/ producer Billy Mann unveiled a video they created especially for this event, called “I Am Autism.”
Does anyone know where they live?

Maybe someone should write to one of these "First Spouses," which included
Mrs. Ban Soon-taek, Wife of the United Nations Secretary General,
Ms. Therese Rein, Wife of the Prime Minister of Australia and
Ms. Maria Kaczynska, First Lady of Poland, among others.

Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Suzanne and Bob Wright, after their grandson (a "toddler") was diagnosed with autism in 2004. I'd love to know what the parents think of all this. Does anyone know anything about them? On his eighteenth birthday, I want to talk to this kid.
