|
|
1. What are your favorite anime series?
Mine are FLCL, Azumanga Daioh, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Blue Seed.
2. Do you prefer subs or dubs?
I prefer dubs, because I don't understand Japanese, I hate reading subtitles, and there's something about English dub acting that I like.
3. What anime series do you think are underrated?
I think that Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is pretty underrated. It's extremely funny and pokes fun at just about everything. Although it did win the 2002 Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence award for animation, I don't normally see it discussed in any anime board. _________________ I don't believe in anything. 1. Sailormoon, Elfen Lied, Digi Charat, Bakemono Gattari, Hetalia (lol), etc
2. Subs. Dubs are terrible. There are maybe one or two that have decent voice actors. Plus there are often puns and word play that are lost in the translation.
3. I'd heard some awful things about Full Metal Alchemist and its fans, but I recently started watching it and it actually isn't bad. |

My favorite series is Cowboy Bebop. Highly recommended. Second is between Inuyasha and Bleach. Then there is Wolf's Rain and Ghost in the Shell, both of which I've only seen a little of.
I usually prefer subtitles, partially because I'm used to them, partially because the meaning is often more accurate, partially because sometimes dubs are done terribly.
As for the last question, I guess all the animes I watch are fairly well known and liked. _________________ "My witness is the empty sky"

1: Macross Frontier, Code Geass, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Azumanga Daioh, and Negima! Magister Negi Magi.
2. I like GOOD dubs. Good dubs are when the translators actually do a decent job of translating, and the voice actors actually ACT instead of just saying the words. As far as subtitles go, I will watch them if I cant get the dub and/or if the dub sucks.
3: Anime based off of classical novels are kind of sucky in general, but I think Gankutsuou is okay. It's basically the same story as The Count of Monte Cristo, but set in the future, with France being a space nation that spans several planets including Earth and it's moon, and Edmond Dantes (The Count) is in reality some weird vampire-esque creature called Gankutsuou, who's hell-bent on revenge just like in the book. I'm not sure how true to the story they stayed, having never personally read The Count of Monte Cristo, but it is still interesting. Plus the artwork/animation is realyy good, albeit a bit weird: almost every surface, whether its a carpet or a wall or someone's clothing, has a hidden holographic pattern on it. Not a great show to watch if you are high. Otherwise, highly recommended. _________________ The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your horizons! |

1. Death Note, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Azumanga Daioh.
2. I usually watch dubs. I don't mind reading subtitles, to be honest, but I prefer to listen to English voices, as long as the voice acting isn't too bad. Death Note is one of the better examples, which is surprising, considering that the same dub team (Ocean Group, wasn't it?) also did the original English dub of Dragonball Z (that I saw), which I hated compared to the later Funimation one.
3. Can't say off-hand. But I'm surprised Planetes isn't more popular. It is begging for a live-action remake, IMO. _________________ BLAKE: You said persuasion wouldn't work and it didn't. So now we use force.

I don't consider FMA underrated at all, because it's one of the most popular anime series of the decade and is widely considered to be one of the best ever. Although the fanboys/fangirls can be a little over obsessive about it, that only proves how extremely popular it is. I haven't watched that much of it, so I can't have a real opinion on it.

I've seen some other anime fans say that Plantetes is a very underrated series as well.

I can see AtomicKaiju I can see that you might have enjoyed the fact that both Azumanga's Ayumu Kasuga (Osaka) and Abenobashi's cast substituded the Osakan accent for Southern accents.
I started watching dubs with Bebop, Death Note, Hellsing, Bleach and FMA, but I eventualy hit a wall that I wanted to pass and watching some of the shows not released dub. It realy was weired and hard to watch the subbed versions at first, but it grew on me and it makes me a bit sad that a lot of dub fans won't get to watch shows like Dennou Coil or even shows like Hayate and Clannad that got un dubbed releases.
It is a bit novelty to hear some difference in accents in english dubs. Abenobashi was quite intersting I thought it had a lot of parodies and was really random. Well since then I saw FLCL in terms of random and Hayate and I think it is quite on par with Hayate in terms of parody, except movie episode which was a barage of parodies (come on "Jaws" was riding "Twister". My favirout episode was the dateing game especialy the fact the girl was a parody o Kanon's Ayu.
I asume that you may have also been looking for a couple recomendations, have you seen Lucky Star, it is a dub I don't mind, it is kind of like Azumanga in being a slice of life, but even less plot , but still good an character can be easy to relate to. _________________ Do the impossible, see the invisible. Oh yes I did. I just LOVE the Southern accents of Osaka and Sasshi.

Like I said before, I don't understand Japanese, so I can't tell if the acting is good or not. Again, like I said before, I don't like to read subtitles, because when my eyes are focused on the them, I might miss a good part of the show. And thirdly, I just love English dub acting. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about actors like Christopher Sabat, Quinton Flynn, Amanda Winn-Lee, Steve Blum, and many others that I like (maybe it's one of my aspie traits). I'm fine with anime fans preferring subs over dubs, it's just the hardcore subbies, the kind who belittle dub lovers and tell them to burn in Heck just for liking dubs, I can't stand.

I thought the Jaws part was hilarious, and I knew about the Kanon reference even though I haven't actually seen Kanon (although some anime fans on the internet would quote "uuk-uuk" from the series) Thanks for letting me know that I was right about that.

I have seen the first two episodes of Lucky Star on the internet (at an area with a faster internet connection than mine), and I thought it was really, really funny. I humbly await a complete DVD box set (I have a serious code of honor about anime and DVDs). Speaking of Lucky Star, I have recently bought an anime series similar to it called PaniPoni Dash. It's a very hilarious anime with fun characters, and randomness at every corner. So far, I've only watched four episodes out of twenty-six, but I am enjoying it so far. _________________ I don't believe in anything. Religion, evolution, history, none of it is real to me. I have also watched a bit of Pani Poni Dash, it is an interesting parody slice of life, but I am also drawn to it because it is done by SHAFT. SHAFT do some realy good anime, and the japanese reuse some good voice actors which are also in their other good anime. Such as Becky is also the voice of Hazuki in Moon Phase (a child vampire) and surprisingly the highly aclaimed Hitagi from Bakemonogatari which fans are calling best this year. And the class rep plays the even more insane Kafuka in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, btw the Lucky Star OVA (which sadly doesnt look set for a dub) did a segment in this style. If you enjoy Pani Poni I might also recomend you check some SHAFT anime, thoiugh some of the greats like SZS, Maria Holic and Natsu no Arashi are not dubbed yet.
I probably also recomend you check out Hellsing if you have not, I think especialy Crispen Freeman's Alucard is geneous and it feels all the better to watch the ep series first before watching the awe inspiring OVAs. Being set in England the english accents fit the area and a good deal sound authentic, though it is a little gorey it is quite good. _________________ Do the impossible, see the invisible. 1: Naruto, Yugioh 5D's, Ghost in The Shell, and Claymore
2. I prefer the subtitled ones because they tend to be mor mature and the voices are much less annoying.
3. I wish more people knew about Claymore(the manga rather than the show). Claymore was what got me into manga and anime in the first place. _________________ Hate is a lie, a facade for inner suffering or jealousy. Evil does not exist in the minds of those who are evil. 1 FLCL, Last Exile, Cowboy Bebop, Azumanga Daioh, Chobits, Love Hina, Golden boy, (and Naruto before it became sh**). I've seen over 30 series but the mentioned bring back memories.
2 sub (watching dubs makes me frustrated cuz it's not the real deal)
3 I can't really answer because I don't know what people frown upon or look up too. I just find something read up on it and watch it. Not following polls... _________________ AAA

1. Chobits, Elfen Lied, Evangelion, Hellsing, Ghost in the Shell, Macross.
2. Subs. It's closer to the original intent.
3. Bartender. Each episode a new person gets a drink from him, tells them his/her story, and he sorts out their problems (and exactly the right beverage) using Holmes-like deduction. Ok it might just be me. |

It seems that Azumanga Daioh and Evangelion are pretty popular among this group. _________________ I don't believe in anything. Religion, evolution, history, none of it is real to me.
