Hi,this relates to smell sensitivity.Does anyone else have real problems with all the perfumes and deodorants and body sprays that most people wear these days? I am always feeling like a blow fly that has just flown into a stream of fly spray;they make me nauseous, mind goes to jelly and lots of headaches. Now I know if someone doesn't shower enough it can get pretty unpleasant as well, but I think these days the amount of horrible chemical smells people wear is MUCH more repellent than just that normal "end of the day" smell.Any one agree?

YES I HATE IT!

I hate breathing and tasting the stuff. Also, it's crazy how much people apply on themselves. More isn't going to make it better! You still look and act like a dumbie! Very Happy

ABSOLUTELY! I want to spray them all with "fart in a can" and see if they like it!!! I have to move from seat to seat on public transport as different toxic people sit beside me. Many of them take pills everyday for migraines and dont see it could be the stench/chemicals they are inhaling. MY bug is, we have stopped people being allowed to smoke in public....so others are not affected by their fumes. BUT with perfumes, people can use as much as they like and work/sit/walk beside you. There should be a smellometre and I would be happy to volunteer to issue tickets to anyone guilty of this crime!
DONT even get me started on people who put "auschwitz" style deodorizers in their houses/offices....squirting poison out at intervals, onto their poor visitors...and children, sometimes who are showing signs of hypersensitivity to the odour!!
What wrong with old fashioned cooking smells in a house?

Also really hate those plug in room deodorisers (what a joke-they don't deodorise, they just add revolting smells on top of whatever was there in the first place) Visited someone's house the other day(important distinction there!) and they had one in each friggin room,it was so strong my eyes were burning! I used to work in a nursing home, believe me ,even the natural smells can get overwhelming in a place like that but you then spray room deodoriser everywhere and all you have is the overwhelming smell of poo with the overwhelming smell of chemicals!! Whats wrong with opening a window! No wonder I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown when ever I did this type of nursing. Actually one of my least favorite smells is the waft that comes out of the photocopier when it finishes a page,no one else can smell it in my office but I just want to run from the room screaming. there rant over.

I can't stand most perfumes, colognes and deodorant fragrances, especially men's. That stuff is nauseous. I wear Pi by Givenchy. It has a very nice earthy smell that isn't overbearing. For women I've always loved Moonlit Path from Bath & Body Works and Cool Water. Those sports fragrances are disgusting.

a lot of perfumes and cleaners give me a headache and/or send me into an asthma attack.

a substitute para-educator in my son's special ed classroom was wearing something that sent 2 of the kids to the nurse's office and my son broke out in a rash and was wheezing so I told the school to send him home.

what kind of idiot wears strong perfume into a special ed classroom?

then my kid's teacher said my son used it as an excuse to get out of school and I told the school no, I SAW THE RASH AND HEARD THE WHEEZING.

OMG bhettie....

No1. Yes, why does the special needs sector not know about sensory overload?
(flouro lighting, smells, sounds)etc (and design buildings accordingly)
No2. EVEN without a rash/wheezing.......it is so horrible for that teacher to discredit your childs distress! Ask them if they would like someone to scream at the top of their lungs, at close range, for hours on end right into their ear. (they may have moments of that at work and relate) BUT we do not get a break from the screaming "loud " smells that are yelled up our nose. It is real. Also, just because some of us ATTRACT attention, does not mean we WANT it! Did your son want to get out of school that day?Yeah...maybe so, but for a valid reason! We surely have the right to air! Surely!

Dear girl that sat in front of me in 10th grade math,

I'm sorry I snorted continuously behind you the entire year. I hadn't thought to ask for a seat change because the perfume you wore made my nose run really bad. I didn't think of this incident until many years later. Don't worry, I found you just as repulsive as you probably found me for snorting. How'd things work out with the happy trail you had running down your back? Do you look impressive in front of a fire, like a bear skin rug these days?

So glad to catch up,

The guy with the runny nose behind you every day in 10th grade math. AKA Josh

Yeah, I'm really sensitive to all that fake chemically smell stuff. Our neighbor, with whom we share a wall, uses scented laundry products, and the smell comes right into our house unless I close the window.

It's not so much the smell of all that stuff which is objectionable to me as the chemical, toxic nature of it. I get headaches when bombarded by Calvin Klein Obsession, because it's made out of toxic chemicals.

And no matter how nicely and sweetly you say, "I'm so sorry, but, even though your perfume smells lovely, there is some ingredient in it which I have a reaction to, and I get bad headaches if I'm exposed to it, so could you please not come too close while your wearing it. So sorry," they get offended and hurt. "What? You don't like the smell of my Yves de la Buffoon Perseveracion de Nuit? But it smells so good! Here, let me spray some on you so you can smell it better. And while I'm at it, let me play some of my music for you, since if you are complaining about the fact that you could hear it, then obviously you weren't hearing it thoroughly enough to fully appreciate it."

Ugh!!

I can handle some perfumes if used in moderation, but some of these guys wearing AXE make me gag, smells like Raid bug spray, and those cheap celebrity perfumes that get spewed out who'd have thought they can bottle off to rehab skank in a bottle.

I agree that's it's wrong for a special Ed teacher to wear perfume!
It's interesting that there is a lot of awareness about asthma triggers and food allergies in schools these days but not smell sensitivities. I get frustrated in nursing as a lot of nurses these days wear this stinky crap, even if a patient doesn't normally have problems with smells,if they are unwell then it's highly likely they will be more sensitive than normally.

Just had a thought, there are probably some really talented aspy teachers out there now that struggle to do their job properly because of the stuff that teenagers slap on like water. One person with stinky stuff on is bad enough but imagine 30 students all trying to peel paint with their spray on!!
