In some schools (including mine) in my district, they have this thing called SMOD (standard mode of dress) where you have to wear polo or oxford shirts and khaki pants in the school's colors and of course, people hated it, but I actually like it because I refuse to wear boring, trendy clothes.

| That's rather stupid of you to say. "Trendy" clothes are not boring. Wearing the same colors everyday is the definition of boredom: "Uninterested because of frequent exposure or indulgence". Refusual of clothes simply because they are "trendy" is trying too hard. Of course, such clothes the school is requiring you to wear might be simply your preference by looks or comfort but claiming you refuse to wear such clothes, is, again, stupid. |

I was talking about clothes with stupid brand names on them (Aeropostale, American Eagle, Hollister, etc.).

My school has the laxest dress code ever, as long as you're not running around naked no one cares. And even then, I dunno if they'd make much of a fuss about it. Though, I'm pretty sure the cafeterias won't serve you if you don't have a shirt and shoes on.
Anyway, when I was in elementary school we had that sort of dress code. It was wonderful. But, I'm the sort of person who wears the same thing every day (different colors of course) and with really, really strict dress codes nobody notices. =D |

I don't think there really is one. I haven't heard of anyone receiving something other than than teacher nagging for the (occasionally outrageous) clothes they wear. I myself have facial hair that would make Lincoln green with envy, and my hair's about shoulder length.
I would support a stricter dress code, if it meant more formal clothing. However, I don't think it should be too strict. A uniform wouldn't be a problem, but setting regulations on things such as hair-length would be too far.

I have a uniform. This year, it's a white shirt with my school's logo, blue skirt or skort (or pants) and black leather shoes.
I like it. I don't have to worry about clothes. |

The shool I went to (40 years ago) had no dress code whatsoever. No uniform the only requirment being that they were washable and a good set of outdor clothing was well advised.
This ment that from that day to this I have worn the uniform of tee shirt and jeans.(alright nowdays I wear a denim skirt)
Of course having Levis or Wranglers ment you were cool and Tesco Denim defenitly was not.

| My highschool started out with an ok dresscode as time went on they got stricter and stricter. We had uniform polo shirts, we did have a choice of colors with the school logo on the side of the sleeve. And we were allowed to wear our choice of bottoms as long as they were three inch above the knee at the shortest but that rule got broken all the time. I broke it all the time my senior year once I realized I could "bend" the rules. I hated the dress code like everyone else. I dont dress trendy for the most part(especially in back in highschool) but I still perfer to wear my own clothes. |

mine was more or less the only high school in my city and fair few in the country with no uniform for any year, and we were the "nonconformist" school, although I recall that many of the non-conformists conformed remarkably with each other...

It's gotten a lot stricter at my school since I started there. When I was in year 7 you just had to wear a polo shirt with the school's logo on it and whatever else you wanted. By year 11 when other people took over the school there was a dress code and for this year the rest of the school has to wear a proper uniform and year 12 and 13 have to wear clothes that fit the dress code.  Complicated....Anyways previously yr 12 & 13 could wear whatever they wanted and because my school has a lot of art and performing arts students...well you can imagine. I mean people still push it by wearing jeans and jewellery that your not supposed to but there you go. I didn't mind when I wore black jeans cause I couldn't wear my trousers. Lol  |

My school says its dress code is not strict, but many students disagree
We have to wear some sort of collared shirt and pants (or shorts between April and November  ) with a belt and you get demerits if you don't wear socks

Ours isn't strict if you just read it (shorts to a decent length, girls can't show cleavage), and it isn't enforced.

My school's similar, though they are a little strict about what I call "hussiness", people dress as they please. My school is very creative and eccentric, so nobody cares about cross-dressing or gothic styles. Luckily there are a lot of people who dress trendy at my school too, so I don't stand out for not following those styles (though I don't wear name-brand, not my thing).
