Are you supposed to remember them? Does it matter if someone forgets them (say, when you met)?

You have no idea at all how old you were when we started dating. What good is it to remember arbitrary things, anyway? Rolling Eyes Wink Laughing How long ago was it? What a silly question.

I'm always really amused by all the fuss my female friends make about that. turns out that each one of them has a different system of calculating the date - for some it's the day they first met, for others the first kiss, first sex or whatnot. I find it hilarious.

My bf and I were trying to work out which day it was supposed to be yesterday. We had two dates to chose from; my birthday or Valentine's day... we chose the latter because it was the first official date (we think).

To be honest, he's better at remembering dates than I am. I wouldn't be offended if he forgot. I might be a bit hurt if it were my birthday, but not an anniversary.

This is where being with someone that's got a few aspie traits helps. My gf and I ended up just "deciding" that we were in a relationship with clear wording rather than trying to figure out what date was considered the beginning of the relationship... It did help, however, that we were friends for three years prior to the relationship, so we could skip all that getting-to-know-you "dating" stuff ("dating" in quotes because I personally don't consider that to be dating).

I think it depends on the person but personally I wouldn't say it mattered. Some people however take anniversaries and remembrances very seriously though.....

Mainly I have trouble remembering stuff anyway unless it's something I'm real into like music or my personal obsessions. Relationships are very hard and what's worse, I'm terrible at names. I've had some people misconstrue it to mean that I didn't care or was being rude on purpose. Usually it was the opposite, I'd sit and struggle with remembering which I think is part of my executive dysfunction. So sometimes I think anniversaries and social functions are more or less subjective to each person. But traditionally we're usually taught and raised in the importance of anniversaries, birthdays, and anything to do with interpersonal relationships and the significance they each hold.
