It's been a few months, and while I have not had an official diagnoses, it is very likely that I have a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome. It has been a very good thing for me to find this out; a lot of things about myself make sense to me now, and I understand why I have done and acted the way I have; I know that there are other people who have had the same problems I have had. There are a few concerns that I have, but they are mostly that my daughter might have it or I might have a son who has it very severly. Even if one of them did have it, it could still not be bad; I have an Autistic friend who has been very socially sucessful, at least in some ways. I'm hoping everything works out well and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice.

Welcome to Wrong Planet..
IMHO: Knowledge is power and there is a lot of combined knowledge on these forums. I learn more about AS and myself each time I visit.

The majority of the people are friendly and the few trolls we get usually do not last long.

Hell Tanja,

Welcome to the Hotel WP...........

I remember thinking that I had mild AS, about a month ago. Mild because I run my own business, am married a long time and because I was never called a Dork, Dweeb, Geek, Spaz (to my face anyway) or anything like that. I think the fact that I am a weight lifter might have had something to do with that, in adult life anyway.

I can now see, as if coming out of a coma, that my AS is anything BUT mild. My personal reference to 'mild' was due to the fact that I have been able to cope reasonably well.

Being able to cope despite being on the Autism Spectrum is the essence of being 'High Functioning'.

The clinical term 'High Functioning' is actually used, I think, only for those who have transitioned from Classical Autism to Functioning.

The term Asperger's is used to describe those who did NOT undergo a clinical transition from Classical Austism.

There is apparently little to distinguish HFA and AS in adulthood.

So are you saying you're not mild and you're moderate or severe?

I don't find disagreement rude, perhaps you could enlighten me/us.

I was quoting from the glossary of Tony Attwood's 'The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome'.

Hello and welcome...I might have "mild" asperger's and "severe" ADD were one able to have them both as far as the DSM-V is concerned.
I was "assessed" as having Asperger's and told I could treat it as a diagnosis...then told that I couldn't by someone else...and I am being treated for ADD symptoms and I have not discussed AS with my doc..because I figured it would only create confusion and cost more money and I needs me Addys...even though they are not miracle pills...(I am somewhat dependent)
