I've read of possible connections, but has anyone here been dx'd with AS/ASD + fibromyalgia, CFS and/or IBS?
I've been dx'd with CFS, fibromyalgia, IBS, sleep disorder, anxiety disorder, and depression over the years. I'm been under a great deal of stress lately with bad insomnia and the pain reminded me of all the diagnoses and it made me wonder again how related they are. |

I have had lifelong IBS...but not diagnosed...never been to a doctor to address it.
I am assessed as having Asperger's
I was thinking of starting a thread to see whether IBS is more prevalent among men or women on the spectrum or is it spread evenly.
Among my tiny clutch of spectrumy friends I am the only female, and the only one with IBS that I know of. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/MsPuppetrina

Hey poopy LS,
It may suprise you but most people hate talking about that kind of stuff.(IBS) That would not be a good special interest to have, really.LOL I was going to say sh** instead of stuff but that would just be in poor taste, wouldn't it.LOL
The other issue is that people who have had some conditions if not all but most of their lives often think that they are normal. I can honestly say I fit that category. If I cared to get DX's I would possibly have IBS, CFS, Fibromyalgia, borderline type 2 diabetes, Syndrome X, possible thyroid issues, depression, multiple food and chemicle sensitivities, perhaps OCD. I don't remember myself when I didn't have most of these symptoms. No big deal to me I know no different and still get on and do what I need to do in life.......All I am saying is if someone has never known being 100% well how do they know they are sick and why then would they think to talk about things like that, if they percieve that everyone else in the world feels like this too.
I would be interested in reading the results of thread discussing IBS and all sorts of medical condition ASDians suffer from. I suspect you would indeed find a link to many inflamitory and auto-immune disorders. Which, I hate to say is a very large part of what people like DAN (Defeat Autism Now) and the Phieffer treatment centre looks at in their "treatment of Autism" You may also find that when allot of of these peripheral diseases, deficiencies and inbalances are remedied many of the symptoms of ASD and many other disorders of the mind also go away or are significantly reduced.
To me it's just unfortunate they use the term cure or recover in relation to ASD when what they should be saying and what they actually do is treat the underlying health issues that are labeled as ASD symptoms when infact they can be caused by a multitude of things other than ASD. Never the less smptoms that mirror ASD can be reduced in this way.Or perhaps they treat underlying disease to help the patient to reach optimal health, when this is achieved the patient often has less ASD symtomology................ AAAAAANNNNNNYYYYWAY just something to ponder....................

I've read that CFS and fibromyalgia are way more common in women than men in the general population. I don't know much about IBS, only that I was dx'd with it.
I talked to my chiropractor today and he said yes I have fibromyalgia but if I don't have a good reason for getting re-dx'd and having it in my records, I shouldn't get a dx because if I do, any time I go in to see a medical doc they'll write off any pain symptoms as part of the syndrome instead of checking to see what's actually wrong. I actually believe him based on my experiences over the years, although it seems like a doc should understand that I'm very familiar with all the pain I've been living with so a new and different one is going to stand out.
also part of this mix is that for many years I didn't know other people didn't feel like I did so it feels weird trying to understand that I'm experiencing chronic pain that is not normal to the general population. |
