I found out I was about my diagnosis when I was 13... when I found out, I didn't know what I was... my reaction was obviously bad but I did know that there was something wrong with me but I couldn't quite figure out why?

Until last year I was told that I had AS so i'm now basically not too 100% sure if im AS or just High-Functioning Austism because I didn't speak to i was like 4 years of age...

According to the teachers, I have more of the symtoms of an AS than an autistic person but then when im in public or talking, I tend to mumble... Confused

Thanks to the head teacher in secondary, now im unsure with my condition Sad

My discoveries came a bit later than that of the previous posters, and all diagnosed by myself. I determined I had OCD when I was about 12. I stumbled across an article about it and realized how many of my traits were described. My AS self-diagnosis occured in 2007, again after stumbling across the topic. After further reading and discovering places like WP, I finally found an explanation for who I was and also found a true connection with other people. I am in the process of receiving an official diagnosis at this time.

I was... well, I guess I would have been 27 when my psychologist started looking into it. I don't remember if it was before or after my birthday when he finally just said that is what it is basically.

I had a very positive reaction for the most part, as 27 years is a long time of going without knowing why you are the way you are, and having people yelling at you to "snap out of it"... trying your hardest to do so, lol, and getting frustrated that you can't.

The only downfalls I have really... granted my life in general is pretty frustrating from one thing to the next, but the real downfall I have at times is trying to communicate with my boyfriend at times and be at ease most of the time with him, as well as him being okay with that. He is okay with it, but as I cannot stop the nervousness/anxiety, he can't help but to feel bad at times... and the realization that it will always be that way can be depressing at times, and the idea of working on things to try to make it better is quite overwhelming at times, too.

I was 45 when I self-dx'd "aspergers likely". I'm now 46 and the diagnosis has been confirmed by 3 mental health professionals.

I was 56 when I heard a segment on NPR about Asperger's Syndrome and was startled to hear them talking all about me! I had no idea.

I was diagnosed at 37.

My Tourette's was diagnosed earlier (due to the more overt presentation of symptoms).

*I* found out when I was 22, only to learn that it had been suspected since I was 5.

I was diagnosed when I was 7, and it was never kept a secret from me.

Incidentally, concerning the topic title: I have no disorder, no malfunction; I am not a defective unit.

I was diagnosed at the age of ten. Before Asperger's even existed.
