My father studied physics, became an engineer. My mother never went to college, but is very smart, tech-savvy, and very logical/inventive.

Parents' occupations topic

My father was a carpenter/payroll clerk, and my mother was a municipal government desk clerk.

Neither went beyond high school, and were intellectually average.

No. My dad is a geologist, and my mom co-owns a restaurant. --They've been separated/divorced since 1972.

I would say that I am kind of a math person but university math is getting hard now. My dad, mechanical and my mom industrial, but they met each other as teachers and i think they both taught math and my dad taught math and physics.

Nope, my father is a computer engineer/programmer (math major, chemistry minor) and my mother has her degree in speech pathology/therapy (minored in drama i think). They married in 1978 and are still together, with me as the oldest of their 3 sons. That aside, i am a math person, but i wouldnt say its my obsession.

Neither parent is very good at math. My father had zero math skills aside from adding and subtracting.

My father was a welder, but he has a gift for wood working, and my mother was a therapist for young children.

Nope. My dad dropped out. He has a position at a theatre. My mom is a music journalist and photographer. I'm good with maths, but I dislike the school system. Besides, advanced math is useless to me and if I'll ever need it I'll google it. Just as Jack Black I need rock science, not rocket science!

My dad did electrical engineering (BA level) and used to work at a technical university, repairing audiovisual machines;
my mum went to nursing school (BA level) and used to work as a nurse, visiting people at their homes.
I'm the youngest of their two children.

It depends on what type of job you are looking for in a future career because some careers that has to do with math will look at what you studied in college or university and so on

My dad's an appraiser and my mom's a nurse.
He also tried social working and being a PE teacher and worked in the special ed room when he was in his twenties. The he tried real estate in the 80's and hated that job and then he became an appraiser. Well at least he had a head start with dealing with special need kids because he ended up needing the experiance :wink:

Yep - dad's an engineer. Very practical type ... big DIY projects, always making things. Mum was a major nag when I was a kid!

My dad did work at Microsoft for a while..
but naw, my parents are mostly the outdoor type. Collectively, they've been NOLS instructors, forest firefighters, kayak teachers, bush pilots, etc..
