I'm curious if performing a repetitive task is especially easy for people with Asperger's. I know I can do them very well and effectively, as soon as I know the process. At my job, I mostly get assigned to do the over-and-over tasks that everyone else complains about. I think it's something I don't need to think about and I never get bored doing. Is this just me? Is there a name for this trait?

Do you have a point when doing a repetitive task just unbearable? Or can you do a process forever and ever?

Thanks in advance for the responses!

Edit: People with Autism may answer this, too; however, I am mainly seeking AS answers.

I find that repetitive tasks are very easy to do. I can do them all day, if I was given the chance. That's the reason that I love my current job.

Yeah I love repetitive tasks. Nothing new to learn and so I won't get it wrong. I liked working in the stock room unpacking boxes.

I find repetitive tasks to be enjoyable. I used to work at a chicken processing plant, and it required me to work on a production line. Everyone always wanted to rotate throughout the day and do different jobs to fight the boredom, but I was perfectly happy to stay at one spot all day every day.

I couldn't be on a production line, it would kill me. I'm a night stocker, and stocking shelves is very repetitive, but there's also a challenge in it. There are many different items to throw on the shelves, and you have to get things on the shelf neatly. I also have to remember where stuff is... all this while trying to get stuff done quickly enough with a quota to meet. All I can say is I love my job, it's very fun.

Repetitive tasks seem to stress me quite a bit so I'd have to say NO. I prefer to be learning something new all the time and doing different things, as well. I could never work on an assembly line. I think I would have a nervous break rather quickly. My mind needs to engage in something creative or educational. Anything repetitive kills me.

I can definitely do repetitive tasks longer than others. There will be a point when I need to take a break, but I typically like those kinds of jobs. Sometimes it gives me a sense of "alone time", just thinking of things while being productive. It just somehow feels good to me. It's kind of weird that sometimes I have trouble paying attention, but I could do some tasks over and over again for long periods of time.

Well-defined and familiar is great, but I prefer a little complexity in the repetition. I have panic attacks doing line work in a factory, mostly because I feel pressure and become very aware of my surroundings. But I love things like counting, stocking, and arranging. Repetitive without being stressfully easy.

I find repetitive tasks easy to do once I know how to do them. However I try to avoid getting into these situations because even though I like predictability, it worsens my depression because my depression is based around how everything will always be the same - pointless. Even so, I often avoid trying new things because of the safety of predictability. Either way I'm stuck in a bad situation. Easy isn't always good and doing the hard thing wont always make things better.

Ok sorry for going off topic.

They are too easy.
I've found myself trying to turn every task into something repetitive.
For example, eating. I will eat certain foods in a certain order, drink water, eat foods in an order, drink, etc.

Repetitive within reason. I can do something reasonably repetitive ("variations on a theme") probably forever. If it's *exactly* the same over and over, I'll last about three days.

Repetitive tasks, generally, are murder. I mean, there has to be something else in them that pleases me in order for me to repeat a task or activity (wink, wink, but seriously). I will say what I always do when answering such questions, though... I am undiagnosed and reasonably if not perfectly high-functioning, so really I can't say whether I am AS, eccentric, "gifted", ADHD... you get the point. Suffice it to say I share many, many AS traits and cannot stand repetitive tasks unless there is some benefit or pleasure in it or unless it is something I did wrong or imperfectly the first time and I am seeing whether I can improve or perfect it.

Anything repetitive seems to produce intense stress for me. A lot of things do though. Talking on the phone and trying to follow a long line of verbiage makes me stress or go bonkers. I have become short these days when dealing with it. I can't seem to handle much anymore, if anything, and why I stay so long inside my little box.
