How to save Asperger's in DSM-V

Ok so Asperger's will be eliminated as a separate disorder. Thing is, calling it "mild" autism seems to be wrong. In rating the severity the propose:

Autism: severe, moderate, mild,

why not

Autism: severe, moderate, Aspergers

Given how much effort, research, books that has been already invested in Aspergers, and how many books written on Aspergers, calling it mild seems to be an injustice, and it may not be mild to those who have it,

would you rather be told you have mild autism, and then google or try to read books about mild autism, or find them on youtube, or
would you rather be told you have asperger autism, and then google or try to read books about mild autism, or find them on youtube,
The difficulties in making friends, finding love, and finding employment are not "mild" but there is considerable amount of information for those with AS.

I feel it is a disservice to tell parents their child only has "mild" autism, esp when the child has difficulty making friends or is traumatized.

My only worry is that schools will increasingly persecute those with Aspergers if the change is made. I don't care about the books: it's all bunk anyway as far as I'm concerned.

Who says it's going to be called "mild autism"?

It's just going to be Autistic Disorder, with a few levels of severity based on symptom severity; from severe to less severe (with less severe still meeting all of the criteria and the clinically significant level of impairment).

I'm not interested in "saving" Asperger's in the next DSM. Keeping it in would be scientifically inaccurate, and besides that, the name is stupid. I have already been referring to myself simply as "autistic" for some time now, and will be glad when the official name of my condition matches up with what the research indicates it should be.

Most people can't even pronounce "Asperger", especially native english speakers.

Personally though I think I have something related to autism which is still not classified as a separate disorder. It's not even "asperger" the way it manifests in most.

When I was diagnosed with Asperger's back in 1996 in Canada, the Canadian school psychologist used the DSM-IV. At least in Canada, it's the standard reference book for clinical psychologists.

No MD or psych ever suspected I was autistic, and the video clips I saw of autistic children did not seem to fit me at all.

Asperger's on the other hand....

No, I'll add New Zealand to Australia and Canada.

The current distinction is arbitrary. It perpetuates misinformation such as the asinine assumption that people with a Kanner Autism diagnosis are universally more severe than anyone with an Aspergers diagnosis.

That's horrible, I think that Aspergers is a great name, it describes me from top to bottom.
