Why not design your own? More fun. Sketch out the logic diagrams on paper then try putting the bits together on a bread board and if it works solder it up on a circuit board. Whatever components you don't have you can salvage from old radios etc. I guess it depends if you are doing digital or analogue electronics. I had hours of fun designing and creating astable circuits with lots of features to make synthesiser type sounds - astables within astables etc. Then practical digital electronics for burglar alarm circuits etc.

Buy discreet components and a few vintage textbooks and build your own basic circuits. I would recommend trying some of the Tech Musings and Hardware Hacker and other stuff published by
Don Lancaster and Forest Mims.

Radio Shack used to have a really good series of little books called the "Engineer's Mini Notebook," by Forrest M. Mims III. They were simple circuit schematics like you're looking for, with explanations of how they work. And they get more complicated as you go on. I liked those booklets a lot.

Ok, I just found the guy's web page for those books --

Yes, it's great. The thing I'm most proud of is my radio. It's amazing the first time you make a radio, turn it on and hear it work. Electronics is a great hobby.
