Recently, I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed by my Dad's cancer. At times, I've felt as though I'm on the edge (i.e., I'm not contemplating suicide here.) While it hasn't terribly affected my performance at work, I do find myself heading to the bathroom or seomplace just so I can calm down and cool off.

Is there anyplace/anyone to turn to?

Cancer's tough. My mom had it about 10 years ago. Not the easiest thing to all of a sudden be caring for the one who cared for you all those years. Mom and I used to joke about her treatments and other things while she was in the hospital, and the levity of that made it a lot easier. Just try to get your mind off things and not dwell on Dad's condition 24/7. Talk with people, do some stuff, whatever. Best of wishes during all this, and remember, you've got a few of us here to help get you through this.

That's what we tried to do. You can think about Dad, but don't let his condition overwhelm you or consume every waking moment. Moderation....

Thanks for your advice. I've pretty much gotten used to my Dad's condition.

There's a lot to get used to. Is your dad doing OK?

Assuming you are in New York by your username, have you looked into local cancer and or carer support groups at all?

In Australia here we have various support groups even for siblings of children with cancer, so surely there's some local support group there.

You don't necessarily have to participate in a group situation, they may be able to put you in touch with someone to talk to about what you're going through.
