i hear a lot of NT people say when they see a child with autism that is not fear the child have to be all messed  up, ect. my question is why do you nt's feel the need to say who life is crying miserable and who life is not. and i don't get it you rather have your babies get a disease in die then vaccinate because you fear them getting autism. is autism so bad to you, you reather have a dead baby.

oh my god i'm not going to give my child this shot to protect his liver cause it may make him autistic, and i thank autism is worst then me having to purchase my 6 month old a Dora casket

Autistic kids used to scare me in elementary school, my mom would have to come to school with me I was so scared.

Kind of ironic.

ok, i took a leap and voted for the first option, "i do because" even tho there is no because listed.

my "because" would be "because it should be available for those that want it".

i clicked on the thread because it asked how nts feel about autism. however that is not what the poll asks. how i personally feel about autism has nothing to do with whether i think a cure should be made available.

i cant answer for why some parents choose to not vaccinate, but its not a choice between autism or death. the vaccine considered the most harmful and causing autism is, i believe, the MMR vaccine. measles, mumps, and rubella are not very common, so even unvaccinated your child has a very small chance to catch those diseases. even if they do catch them, the risk of death is very very low. so the chance a child is going to die because their parents didnt vaccinate due to fear of autism is minuscule.

you want to know how i really feel about autism? i dont like it but i dont dislike it either. its made my life more complex. it means taking longer to get the kids ready for school in the morning, going grocery shopping more frequently in shorter trips instead of fewer longer ones. it means not going to the movies because my son cant sit still in a seat. it means having a warm body snuggled up against me almost every night, being told "i love you mommy" multiple times a day. it means a whole lot of Dora the Explorer on the tv. it means being sure to have a constant supply of strawberries and cheese sticks in the house because some days thats all my youngest will eat. it means being given gifts of lego structures every day, and a lot of screaming when those legos dont go together exactly right. it means having a partner who forgets my birthday but loves me and likes that i dont wear makeup and appreciates my intelligence.

thats the autism that i know and live with every day. its not so bad, certainly nothing i would want to cure or drastically change. i couldnt imagine my life any other way at this point. when i come here to WP tho, i sometimes see a different autism. one that calls me names and says bad things about me because of circumstances of my birth that i have no control over. here it means being told to get out of a place where i come to try and help my child function better and find understanding of living with an autistic spouse.

i put up with this autism here, even with as ugly as it can get, because of the autism i live with every day.

thats how i really feel about autism, since you asked.

Hm. Wut?
I know for a fact that not all neurotypicals, as you phrase it, decide whether or not the life of an autistic child is a "crying missilery"..whatever that is..or not. It doesn't seem like that kind of black and white thinking is the type of mistake that they tend to make.
I'm curious though... who have you heard say that they would rather have a dead child than an autistic one?
Furthermore, I can understand why people began to hesitate to give vaccines. Before the extensive research, how could a concerned parent be sure? Why would they haphazardly expose their children to something that might (according to recent concerning albeit false connections between vaccines and autism) cause them to have a more difficult life? Now that the connection has been disproven, it would be silly for a parent not to vaccinate their children. Before that... I can see why parents were worried.
In your eyes, being on the spectrum might be a good thing. You probably don't think that anyone should be cured.
Regardless of your opinions, it is a DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDER. Obviously. It makes life harder. Granted, I wouldn't trade the benefits for the world, but honestly? I'd like a break from the anxiety, inflexibility, and social deficiencies.
There isn't any need to "NT bash," either.

My child is vaccinated. She won't be needing a Dora casket.

Do you really think any of the NTs who think that way are also WP members? You're asking fans of Jenny McCarthy and Autism Speaks to answer your poll and they're just not here.

You're gonna find that its mainly some of the autistic individuals or the parents of the autistic individuals, are the ones feeling like that there should be a cure.

Most over a huge majority just want to be accepted, like me. ;)

If that makes any sense?

Jenny McCarthy pisses me off, but my grandma eats her sh*t up. After each of my kids were born, she sent me link after link that claimed vaccines cause Autism. To be fair to that side, I gave it a try and read when my oldest was born. I didn't get far... maybe a few sentences of the first page. Then I just rolled my eyes and told her I was getting them vaccinated.

I wonder how she would feel if she were to learn I may have Autism? *evil thoughts*

Definitely. There are some things I wish I could cure. Like my tactile issues. I hate having panic attacks when I step on snow. I hate avoiding mushrooms because the texture makes me gag. I like the taste of mushrooms! :-(

Overall, though, I don't want a 'cure' for Autism. Different doesn't always mean bad or broken.
