I wanted to shares this letter I wrote to my son after attending his birthday party at school. Writing has been a HUGE outlet for me. I wanted to share this since I know a lot you can relate to this.
As I watch you playing its hard to think that just a few hours ago you were sobbing uncontrollably at school. I felt helpless as I tried to reason with you to want to stay, you tears and your anxiety was all I could bear. How could I leave you at school, I could never walk away from you. So as I realized that there was nothing I could do, I knew I had to bring you home. You looked so sad in the car and it broke my heart when your little voice uttered the words "mommy I am sorry". I know this is not your fault, I just wish others could see this and have some patience and understanding. I know things are difficult for you, you have really great weeks and then there are weeks that you struggle so bad. I wish I could take it away, I feel so helpless when you cry. I will fight for you till then end and thats a promise. I am your protector and will make sure that you days are filled with happiness. I am thankful everyday that you were born to us. You are a gift and a blessing. I cherish every moment, every lesson you teach me and I will always accept you for who you are and you will always be enough...
Love Mommy |

Ugh. I'm tearing up reading that.
Anyway. What a beautiful idea. I hope you save it for him to read when he's older.
My mother has a few notes she wrote to me when I was little, and even before I was born, and they mean the world to me. _________________ For there is another kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. Ouch, my heart
I remember all too well. My heart broke for my son as I tried to get him excited for a "fun day" at school, when all he wanted to do was be at home with me.
He will be 18 tomorrow. I took him out of school in 11th grade because of the anxiety from all the years of bullying.
He is truly happy now, homeschool, online.
Bless you for being on his side an pouring your heart out. I do it too, I know it helps. _________________ I love you as you are, as you seek to find your own special way to relate to the world |
