I am 25 and in the US army, I joined up passed all the tests and challenges given to me, but recently they said I may or may not have asperger's. when this information was discovered they originally were trying to chapter me out and just took away my deployable status. im going to a med board instead and may keep my benefits and some pay but.

The truth is I love the military all my chain of command and everyone who knows me says I have so much heart and that Im a good soldier and I deserve to deploy. Yet people above them who have never even met me, are using this new found information to crush me. Im an american and deserve to fight for my countries freedom just like anyone else. so when was it I became less qualified, I work hard, I never give up, I see my brothers as my family, and I care deeply about all of them and the best part is I go above and beyond any task given to me. yet they say im useless now because of what a therapist i saw 1 time for an hour has said.

the only question I have is can I "do" anything about this?

Sorry to see you treated this way by the US Mil but not really surprised . Most of my family have AS in some shape or form but far from being considered a liablity our talents have always been saught after .
Personally I think you need to enquire where your abilities will be seen for the highly desirable asset they are . AS will become a liability for you if you have a strongly developed conscience .My family has only ever offered their services in conflicts we believed were honourable .

Definitely seek legal action. If you function independently enough to drive, go through and complete basic training and do well enough compared to the average soldier some kind of simple social difference of some kind is not significant enough to warrant your removal from your desired duties. I grew up in a military family, moved around allot and my doctors were a portion of the time military doctors. I was told when I was 12 or so that due to my disability I could not work for the military and serve my country. Although my disability of Autism (higher functioning) does get in the way of many things I feel I could in some capacity assist in the defense of my country and it is extraordinarily degrading to not be able to because I am not in whole perfect enough but my mind would be great for some of it.

In the end you will have to make an informed decision about how best to serve your country .Unfortunately , your country is not being served honourably by your elected officials IMHO .
Most serving men and women of conscience are deeply troubled by current events and the corrupt politicians who drive them .

An example rapidly hushed up of course was the' mutiny' of RAAF pilots who absolutely refused to bomb civilian targets in Iraq . No action was taken against these officers because the political backlash would have been disastrous for the howard Gov .

In a propagandised illegal conflict truth is the first casualty and that makes anyone diagnosed with AS a liablity on the frontline . Aspies are notorious for seeing through the fog of lies on the frontline and causing trouble when they report wrong doing . THATS WHY YOU ARE CONSIDERED A LIABILITY.

Its one thing to defend your country , quite another to invade a soveriegn nation to gain control of its assets . When American interests started financing Hitlers rise to power in order to undermine the British empire ,Time magazine named him 'man of the year' .They switched allegiance when they found out the british already had the atom bomb .

Iraq leader was a war criminal and a dictator. I didn't agree with hanging him especially on T.V expecially when the likes of him may have been humbled should he had to be in a prison cell for the rest of his life when he was pampered before. When you are a soldier and goto war you are expected to conduct your duties within the specifications and laws. I think you are incorrect about the assumptions of the diagnosis and governments thinking of it. Also with regards to Britain having the BOMB please provide historic fact. I'd also like to learn more about WWII and American Government supporting the killing of Jews as you indirectly suggest.

On what basis are they trying to say you have AS? If you can find evidence against it (i.e. where you have demonstrated empathy and communication or whatever) that may help refute it.

You might contact your local GI Rights Hotline as they have trained representatives so you are given a fair chance.

Then...you might just not say anything - sort of the 'don't ask don't tell' approach. Well, good luck.

I wouldn't be allowed in the UK army because I have Hungarian blood... but apart from that, I have Aspergers AND Tourettes. Can you imagine me on a stealth mission!??

I don't really know what to suggest in your case. I think you need to go and get a more thorough assessment to find out if you do or don't have AS because it might turn out that you don't after all. How can AS be assessed in an hour? That seems a short time...

With or without seeking internal/external legal assistance, I would begin by trying to find out exactly why the system seems to believe "may not have asperger's" would/could/should affect your deployable status.

Once those factors are actually (if ever) known, just respond to objections and see what happens. However, I suspect you are only going to run into stonewalling and eventually find all of this to have been an exercise in futility.

he didnt say they supported the killing of jews, just that they helped a person get to power. Who then later turned into frankenstein which they probably did not want either.

The first casualty of war is the truth

The second casualties are mil and civ'

FACT. IBM suplied to germany the technical logistics to catalogue and subsequently intern jews and anyone else who dared to question fascist 'morality'.

Fact . "he may be a b***h but he's our b***h"
a quote from a previous head of the cia regarding Saddam hussien.

fact. The american empire is now crumbling under the weight of overextension just like its roman predeccessor. Chronic unpayable national debt will soon lead to its collapse.

fact .The official history is always written by the victors and is invariably written to shed a good light at the opponents expense.

fact . power hungry megalomaniacs dont give a damn about your race nationality color or creed . They play all sides for profit and power .

my rant is insignificant compared to Americas wanton abuse of power around the globe.

Just as I suspected an anti-American spewing not truth but fallacy. In order to properly debate enter in a balanced manner. Your speaking of a democracy, assuming much and comparing the U.S in it's fight to terrorism to that of the Roman empire which was not a democracy. I personally do not believe the Iraq war was necessary nor obligatory.

While no nation is perfect nor mind a constructive debate has room for improvements with dialog. You hope and aspire with your words to the fall of a nation that destroyed tyranny in the past and has supported and made way for freedoms in other parts of the world. Perhaps folks like you should help more so we don't have to spend our money and reduce our quality of lives for the sake of global security in a time of increasing dangers that have been produced by the advancement of human kind and not strictly a singular nation but nations and a human species that simply cannot get along and in of itself is dangerous to one another in it's advancement(s).

Get a grip. You probably view terrorists as freedom fighters and sympathize with terrorism and your longing desire for the destruction of a nation such as the U.S. I think it's time for the likes of you to enter into debate with constructive solutions instead of destructive hopes and ambitions.

well i think you are both right, since america isnt a unity but a democracy. Democracy is about many different people striving for different things good and bad. Its not black or white its both with infinitie grety tones. America does all kinds of things unfortunately.

Freedom comprises many tolerances. That of the good and that of the bad. However what is good and what is bad to one person may be in part of entirely different from individual to individual.

Any smart person saddled with the lable aspie will know that the biggest mistake you can make is to be clinicaly labeled as one .

I would use the same argument regarding any individual. I dont care if you are English ,american or ET .
I judge a person on their merits and integrity .

So getting back to the topic in hand I am just offering my advice based on the experiences of both myself ,members of my family and friends who are challenged by being aspie's.

Most aspies' I know are stubborn individualists who just dont take crap or lies from anyone . We work hard ,we persevere when others bail out .

I cant remember the name of that ENGLISH aspie who hacked in to the pentagon but the state depts high handed arrogance in trying to extradite a guy for hacking their piss poor security deserves A pat on the back for exposing a weakness .

My family did so much to undermine the nazis and I am damn proud of them. My grandfather was one of the top code breakers at Bletchley Park during the war .Aspies prefer to save lives rather than take them.

Oh by the way . Prescot Bush was found guilty of aiding abetting and funding the nazis' and did time for his crime. (thats george bush's grandpappy in case you did not know )

So I say damn the system when it no longer serves the people . One mans 'terrorist' is another mans freedom fighter.

The real terrorists are in the whitehouse.
