It is stated that we aspies are very prone to playing one. I wonder if there is a scientific explanation for this.

I play just a little (guitar). Actually it's not one of the things in which I'm most interested, so I can only play some "basic" things.

i can imitate some male baritone singers of decades past. i can whistle with some facility, though compared to the likes of roger whitaker or pat boone [superb whistlers each] i am strictly an amateur. i can play most larger valved brass wind instruments and clarinets from Eb soprano down to BBb contrabass. i taught myself how to play BBb tuba from studying some valve theory. i played piano and organ and drums a bit when i was very young but decades away from it have made me lose every bit of it, i am now slowly [as is the case of an oldster picking up some neglected skill from childhood] gaining it back. but my multitasking skills are mostly poor.

What instruments do I play? Cello, Clarinet, Digital Multimeter, Flute, Frequency Meter, Keyboards, Logic Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Protocol Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Time-Domain Reflectometer, and Violin.

(Musical instruments in bold)

Very Happy

I took piano lessons when I was in elementary school. Since my instructor moved to a different state, I had to stop taking lessons. I haven't retained much of what I learned. I only remember how to play one song. Hence, I voted "no."

I play several instruments and sing and do audio engineering (old school reel to reel style.)

Some aspies are musically inclined, esp the ones who are mathematically inclined, pattern seekers.

Fnord, can set your Spectrum Analyzer to "Autistic Spectrum" and point it at me? Seems quicker and cheaper than visiting a gov't shrink. Or at least figure out what my natural resonant frequency is?

I've played guitar and bass for 20 years now. Many times it has been my only solace. I've played in loads of bands over the years but always left after a couple of gigs for reasons that I could never explain. It wasnt stage fright, I guess it was just not having control over the where and when to play gigs. Gigging was never my main motivation, playing in bands provided my only real chance to socialise from the age of 14. Not done it for three years now since I moved city to get married. In fact, i've not even made a single friend in the three years since I left Home at the age of 31! I still play as much as I can, mainly as a way of bringing mysef back down to earth after a stressful event.
