| I was watching Doug Walker's short review of The Lion King on thatguywiththeglasses.com and even though that he says that he likes the movie he says it's very overated and a lot of the forum writers agree. I had no idea that the movie was overated. Personally I love the movie, if anything it's probably the greatest Disney movie ever made aside from a few Pixar movies. Some people may choose the fairytale type movie as their favourite like Beauty and the Beast(another great movie by the way) but Lion King is in my opinion the greatest. If it's not yours then that's OK. I guess because I haven't seen it in Yonks and saw it a few months ago for the first time in many years at the cinema. |

"The Black Cauldron" from 1985 is my favorite Disney cartoon movie. The main reason is because I used to play the old PC game quite a bit. I also like that it isn't a musical, and it's rated PG unlike most of the other old Disney movies which are G-rated musicals.
By the way The Lion King is better than a lot of other older Disney animated films mainly because the story is entirely about animals with no human characters. This is one of the main reasons that Disney's Robin Hood and Bambi are great movies too.

| I haven't see Doug's review yet, but I agree that while The Lion King has great production value (the animation and music are wonderful), the story is overrated. The main theme seems to be "don't run away from your past because you might have not have done what you thought you did" which is unsatisfying because it limits Simba's character development. I do like the first act's "bravery is not looking for trouble" theme though. |

I agree, Lion King is one of the most beautiful movies out there. I personally love Lion King 2, as its my favorite movie.
Also i Find if anything, Lion King 3 is overated....
But definately not Lion King 1. |

I agree, though I still think the first is better than the second, which is suprisenly good for a stv movie. |

I still like it... a lot. Also Simba's Pride - I think the songs are better in the sequel (no offence Elton). 3d didnt add a whole lot though _________________ -M&S

Doug Walker's reasoning for considering TLK overrated mainly had to do with a certain nitpick he had with the story. The nitpick was that the story was about Simba running away from a mistake that he (thought he) made yet when he does go back to face Scar, he still seems to be a coward about it and doesn't gain any strength or wits about himself until Scar finally admits that he killed Mufasa. I admit that it's a good point. But I think the Simba weaknesses in this film made him relatable as he was corrupted and deceived as a child.
I do see this film as one of the most unique animated films ever made. Very few animated features would've taken a stab at a movie set in Africa. I think that was the big selling point for me. |

| I will admit maybe I go a little too far when I say Lion King is my favourite Disney movie, which I still stick by, though I recently watched Beauty and the Beast a few days ago and it would come close but still I want Lion King. I will admit some of the things Doug says in his review I kinda notice, like that Scar is less threatening in the third half or something, but thats knit picking and overanalysing and despite these things I still consider this film number 1, disney hand drawn that is. |
