Does anyone else have this problem? Because I'm ambisinister as the result of my HBI, I have trouble brushing, curling, and overall styling my hair (cannot make a good ponytail to save my life). I also have trouble plucking my eyebrows and doing make-up. I'm 17 and live at home. My mom can and does help me with my hair, and sometimes with my make up, and she pays for me to get my eyebrows waxed.

I'm getting better, but not good enough. I'm going to go to college in a year and a half, and I don't know what to do. How can I style hair if I do not have decent fine motor skills? Should I just cut it into a bob?

I find the biggest problem is with shaving my legs. Lose concentration for a second, whoops, blood streaming everywhere... Better put some thick tights on and pray no one sees it...

I eventually solved the problems you describe by having my hair cut short and not wearing make up at all. It's taken me until my mid-twenties, but I like to think I've made it look like a deliberate style rather than slovenliness. If you are obviously wearing nice clothes, have a good haircut, and look confident, you can pull it off. Maybe spend your money on skincare so you don't feel you need full make-up?

Thank you! I think I will do that.

Have you seen those little sticky things they make with the eyeshadow already on them?

You peel them off and place them on a closed eyelid and then peel the cellophane off and your eyeshadow is on. It's got the main color, the contrast color and the highlight color there.

For your hair, I would suggest a short easy to style cut. Tell the stylist your problem and she can show you some cuts that will work. Then pick the one you like the best.

For your eyebrows, unless they are very out of control, you may be fine with not having them done. If you do need to have them done, see if your Mom can get them waxed for you. It hurts a lot, but it will take much longer to grow back. There is also electrolysis, but I'd only consider that if they were very bad.

For your face, you could use something like those light bronzers. They go on very lightly and you just smooth it over your skin. Unlike foundation, it doesn't show much of a line that has to be blended.

Why not make a day of it and go to a beauty counter at the mall? Tell the lady there what you need and the trouble you have with makeup and I'm sure she can help you find some products that you can use.

I'd stay away from heavy stuff if I were you. I ruined my skin at a young age by using all sorts of heavy makeup and ended up with horrible cystic acne because of it and I still have the scars to this day. While you still have young, dewey skin, flaunt it!
