Times have been harder for me lately and my mood swings are just running wilder than they already do. One moment I'm all pumped up watching a basketball game the next moment something that happened in the past crosses my mind and it throws me right into a murderous rage. Then about half an hour after that the shittiness of my life crosses my mind and I'm thinking about signing up for Afghanistan and dying there. And about 15 mins after that I'm just not really feeling anything in particular.

I try to talk myself out of my bad feelings and think of something more positive but I don't know, it's just not very inspiring. For those that have wild mood swings like me, how do you keep it from completely throwing you off?

I find that doing intense cardio for about 90-120 minutes a day floods my brain with endorphins and makes me feel calm for the rest of the day. My mood swings have been diminishing rapidly since I purchased and elliptical and started exercising daily on it. It really helps stabilize me.
Going for a walk and listening to an upbeat song on my iPod helps too.
So does watching something amusing.
If I think of anything else I'll post it

I agree with Jessecat, but I think you also need to check with a doctor, as you indicate this stronger bout of swings is a recent development. There appears to be some sort of imbalance in your system. Perhaps the doctor can help you find out the cause and fix it.

Do you have anything going on in your life that could be upsetting you? I had really bad mood swings when I was about 21 due to a bad psychotic depression that was caused by lots of factors in my life. Getting on psych meds helped the mood swings a little but they got a lot better when I quit the meds 5 years latter; I had sorted out some of the life & mental issues I was dealing with by then & the psych meds were only hurting me when I quit them
