|
|
Hi my name is Owen and im 15 years old. im wondering if i have aspergers or not. i always rock back and forth i flap my hands i make noises i cover my ears i play with my ears and my family members ears to calm me down I get upset if i dont do something right as well as if something in my life or daily routine changes. Im also told i do or say innapropriate things when i thought they were perfectly appropriate. I have taken online asperger tests and my score was 43 which was in the asperger range. hope this is enough information! please let me know if u think i have it or not.
Thank you,
Owen |

| I'm not qualified to diagnose you but you do seem to have many aspie traits. If your worried about it you should make an appointment with a psychologist who can diagnose you and possibly treat any of your symptoms if they bother you. |

No one here can say. You need to see a professional to be sure. What you describe match many features of the disorder; a full assessment could decide whether it is Asperger's syndrome, something else, or simply nothing. (I'm in that process myself.)
Presumably, the test was Simon Baron-Cohen's Autism Quotient test? If it was, then I would say it is likely that you doubts are justified. This tests works, statistically. However, no objective test can compare to an actual appointment. |

| Making noises and covering your ears and playing with OTHRE PEOPLE'S ears. WOW. That sounds like you are even more severely affected than most aspies. I would say you are not just Asperger but downright autistic. The only thing that stops me is that if you started to speak in a normal age that would disqualify you from autism diagnosis. But if you did in fact have speach delays then yes thats exactly what it is. |

| I agree with enrico, the best would be to see a professional. |

| also..this is to Roman, im not sure if i had a delay in speech or not nobody has ever talked to me about it. i remember is pre-school i always wanted to be alone and i would talk but not that much i prefered to sit by myself and look at pictures or read. I also remember when the fire alarm went off i would cry and to this day when the fire alarm goes off i dont cry but i almost cry tears start coming because the noise is too much for me. |

Delayed speech does not determine what diagnoses you get (well it probably can for some pyschs). Some diagnosis of aspergers say no speech delay, some say there can be one. And lots of times psychs don't go directly by the DSM diagnosis because it is so restricted _________________ www.wrongplanet.net |

Hi Owen,
I find your story somewhat puzzling. Do you go public school? The reason I mention this is that it is pretty surprising to me that a 15 year old with these symptoms should have been identified by an adult and tested years ago. Or son (who is now 20) was identified at 7 with 'having something different' by his teachers- we had him tested and the testing came back PDD-NOS (and his symptoms were less notable than yours).
I am not an expert either but with the symptoms that you mention, it is very probable that you are on the spectrum. _________________ Scores- Aspie score: AS-130, NT-75 You are very likely an Aspie

Sounds a bit more like classical autism to me. And I am also wondering why you have not been evaluated for that yet? I cannot dx you either, but that certainly seems to show traits of someone on the Spectrum, no doubt.
Sincerely,
Matthew |

| I do go to public school. i try to act as normal as possible there and because of my social awkwardness i stay by myself all day and dont talk to people. the only person i talk to is my friend who was diagnosed with aspergers. Im just classified as a loner who everybody hates because i am weird. When im in class i rock i dont pay attention instead i read, write or draw but they just take my stuff away from me and have me sit there i still dont pay attention though. I have two F's and people think its because i dont try but its because i cant do it i try but i just cant get it in my head. Even if i study i fail its not possible for me to do that. |

| also when im hungry i will go in the kitchen lie on the floor scream and whine and say i need foodd make me foood because i dont know any other way to get what i want and when im tired i do the same thing or i laugh hysterically for hours on end. when im in the grocery store i tend to talk very loudly and my mother and sister tell me once we are out of the store that i was embarassing the way i behaved and i get banned from going grocery shoping with them for two weeks then if i can behave after those to weeks i can go back with them. Im also told when i leave my grandparents house that i need to learn whats appropriate to say when im there and whats not appropriate. All that time i thought i was being completly appropriate. I also enjoy watching little kid shows like Arthur and the bearenstein bears i also watched barney until i was 12 and i would get very upset if somebody would say something mean about barney then i would go tell on them. When im talking to people i often talk about the same thing over and over and i get upset if they interupt me. i have a hard time talking with other people about themselves so when i do talk its always about me or what i like never about whoever it is im talking to. i get called on that too. i guess my mum just doesnt see im weird which is kinda strange cuz shes a special ed. teacher. she may just be denying it because she wants me to live a normal life. who knows. |

I also find it strange that you haven't been assessed long before now, either at the school's or your parents' behest.
What country do you live in? |

Even if your classmates think you are 'weird' your teachers should see this as a flag that something could be different. Seems they should have talked to you and your parent(s) about this before now.
Maybe you can schedule a short meeting with one of your teachers to let them know your feelings about this and get their input? That might get things rolling if you want to get tested. _________________ Scores- Aspie score: AS-130, NT-75 You are very likely an Aspie
