http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/21/santorum-and-satan-the-devil-is-in-the-details/

I agree with him on one thing, evil is stalking this country, but it has more to do with the rapid erosion of our constitution, rather than the "evils" of academia.

When I read this, then see the election map that he is neck and neck with Romney, it makes me wonder the sanity of the people that surround me. Shocked

Also on super Tuesday, Santorum said "what matters in not the nation's laws, man's law, but God's law"
Basicly, he said forget the consitution, bill of rights, anything the US is founded on, I am just going to govern by my interpretation of God.

Yet this guy is close to winning the popular vote! Have these people who voted for him read world history??? There is a REASON why we have separation of church and state. When you mix politics and religion together, it gets nasty, like Inquisition and Taliban nasty.

Although I dont believe that the book of revelations applies to our time, (I believe it was symbolic for the fall of Israel and the rise of the roman christian church which basicly lead to the dark ages) But if there was a modern antichrist, Santorum fits the bill rather nicely.

I'm scared more by the thousands of people that have voted for him in the primaries.

That man with the nuclear and conventional arsenal of the United States at his disposal is one of the most terrible omens for the rest of this century

I agree with you. But I think Obama would/will win against Santorum.

--------------------------------------------
Along those lines:
http://www.npr.org/2012/02/27/147504999/to-get-out-the-vote-evangelicals-try-data-mining

Quote:
"When Bill Dallas first heard that 15 to 20 million Christians in the U.S. are not registered to vote, he couldn't believe it.

"Initially, it surprised me. And then I thought to myself, 'Wait a minute, I'm not registered,' Dallas says. "Why wasn't I registered? Well, because I didn't think my vote made a difference
." - End Quote

^^^ *whew* - Bill Dallas reminds me of:

Bugs Bunny: Eh, whatcha looking for?

Spike: I'm looking for a rabbit.

Bugs Bunny: Did he have long ears, a fuzzy tail, and hop around like this?
[Hops around]

Spike: Yeah, yeah. That's him.

Bugs Bunny: And is there a tough-looking mug chasing him, with a derby,
[Puts on Spike's derby]

Bugs Bunny: ... and a turtleneck sweater,
[Puts on Spike's sweater]

Bugs Bunny: ... and a big cigar,
[Takes Spike's cigar]

Bugs Bunny: ... and acts like this?
[Acts like a bulldog]

Spike: Yeah, yeah. That he does.

Bugs Bunny: And when you ain't looking, does he let you have it like this?
[Punches Spike]

Spike: Yeah, that's the guy! That's the... Hey, wait a minute! Which way did he go?

Bugs Bunny: Sorry, Mac. Haven't seen him.

ya me too.
He says the word "god" and they follow him around like the pied piper....Kinda like GWB. Cant they see that he is using religion as a tool??

My natural father who is a very strict Pentecostal said this during the Clinton administration:
"Clinton is evil, but he is not the antichrist...I prophetcy that the next president WILL be the antichrist"

Then when Bush got "elected" he basicly thought he was the 2nd coming of Christ because he talked about God Rolling Eyes

Thats when I knew if there was an antichrist, the religious right would lay out the red carpet for him/her.

On a deeper note, why is religion so important for these voters....Do they feel the decline of our country is due to a lack of religion??
I personally think that religion and politics never go well together, history has proven this, time and time again. When a political leader controls the beliefs of the people, freedom is gone.

I believe Santorum is tapping into the lack of connection the religious feel with the political process. We all feel this lack of connection with the political process, but the religious believe it is due to a lack of godliness, and spiritual warfare, and Santorum has tapped into that and is running his campaign on it. Just like Obama tapped into the hopelesness we feel and ran on that.

I just pray that Gingrich stays in the race till the nomination, cause he takes enough votes from Santorum to keep him behind Romney.

I dont think Romney is the golden boy either, but a lesser of evils.

The good news is when he says God's Law he means the constitution, might sound arbitrary with him talking bad about national law or man's law - since the constitution by most people's standard would be both, but suffice to say guys like him see it as a gift direct from God. Don't ask why, that's just how it works.

Despite the preachy roller rhetoric he can't and wouldn't do a thing like that. He still has to work within the framework of the law and if he thinks he can try to steal holy roller votes from Romney by appealing to those who don't want to vote for a Mormon, its the kind of cynical rubbish he has to say (though I wish he wouldn't - I'd much rather see Romney take the nomination).

I always thought Revelations was a coded recipe for chicken soup, albeit last time I tried using it I thought it came out a bit light on the paprika.

Laughing on the chicken soup!
However the last time we had a president on the wings of the evengicals...it was not pretty, while I agree, I may be overreacting, however I think it would be very bad if he got elected.

Republicans in general are scary. But to be fair, Democrats aren't much better.

I agree AstroGeek.

Hypothetical question (to you and anyone who might like to respond):

Bernie Sanders (I) running against Santorum -

Who do you think would win? (not who you would want to win)

Tell them not to tempt fate. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

Santorum is indeed horrifying and that's saying a lot of considering how terrible Obama, Romney, and Gingrich are.

Little girls, you need to stop wringing your hands over Santorum because he'll never get enough votes.

Tinkerbell, that's not the point, the point is there are people who will vote for him, saying something about certain parts of America, and furthermore, it says a lot about the Republican Party that a man like him could gain such high standing within it
