So pretty much 'gay' in Middle-eastern terms is 'witch' in Salem terms.

Is this a jab at emos or a jab at Iraqi politics?

No, emo is some satan worshipper instead of a whiny git.

Gays get a different fate.

Dear muslimmetalhead, Though I have not read the Quran all the way through, I cannot find a sentence of death decreed for homosexuality. That seems to come from the Hadith, which, correct me if I am wrong, is not considered the word of God, as is the Quran. from what I read, the practice of homosexuality is forbidden, but not an explicit punishment. Therefore, are not these stonings and tortures actually against the spirit of the Quran if someone commits violence, stating that it is commanded by the Quran?

This compares to Fred Phelps and his ' Westboro Baptist Church', I believe...those who believe they do God's will, though they are obeying only their impulses of hatred.

Just my opinions.

The whole situation is a hot mess as far as human rights are concerned and on top of that, the Kurd in the article said it well - if its emo's today, who could be accused of being 'gay' next?

It seems like Islam today is where Christanity was during the middle ages, ironicly, the middle ages were the high point of Islam history thus far, well other than the crusades brought to them by the church.
I see so many parallels between the two. This kinda does remind me of a modern inquisition.

My heart goes out to the LGBT and Emo folks in Iraq.....hurry!! run to Jordan as fast as you can! There is no way you can stay there safely. When I read of such senseless hate crimes, my grief knows no boundary lines....May God be with you.

This here is proof that gay folks dont do it to because "gay is in", we are just born this way.

My natural father who is a strict Pentecostal seems to think "kids just become gay because gay is in". He also believes it is an offense deserving of hellfire-damnation etc. I tried to explain to him that they did a 10 year longitudinal study in homosexuality of animals and found it to be present in every species they studied therefor proving it is perfectly natural. However he just dismissed that as study that was biased by gay science. Rolling Eyes

Sorry to go on a rant.

However I believe when the 10 commandments say "do not use God's name in vain."
It does not mean avoid saying "Godd@mit"
but that it means not to do selfish or hateful acts and claim it to be God's will.

I shudder at the idea that these rougue religious gangsters actually believe they are carrying out God's will by smashing people's heads in with cement blocks. Shocked

Lol, no apologies needed. I've never understood that logic "Wait.....I really like women but....I can push myself into liking other guys and...I can be persecuted, shunned, often have risks of violence, lose jobs or face job discrimination, lose most of the legal benefits of a hetero arrangement....sign me up!!!". yep...I try to explain it to him like that. I even told him that the highest number of suicides in the US are with male homosexual teens. He said that is "because they are being fully controlled by satan" Ok the good ol' satan scapegoat....if it clearly challanges their beliefs with enough logic to actually blast truth into their minds, then they run out of the 'satan did it' escape hatch. Rolling Eyes

I am convinced you cant convince a fundamentalist to think logically anymore than you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

If my parents believed I was being controlled by Satan I'd probably volunteer for an exorcism, and it'd probably never happen anyway because someone possessed by Satan wouldn't make that request.

Your a brave soul cause I been exorsized a few times...it is quite dramatic. Make sure your parents are there so they dont try to get medevial on you and try to beat the devil out or something equally insane.
But if you are willing, go ahead, then when it is over, announce your are still gay. Very Happy

I guess I'm lucky in that I have parents who, while Catholic, never believed in that kind of thing and never thought that because I was out with friends at all hours of the night or driving hundreds of miles to go to raves or crashing at girl's places that I was possessed by Satan. I think if anything your post reminds me that when I run into a great many angry liberals in PPR that when I think they're drawing cartoon caricatures of conservatives its really that I just live in a more liberal-dominated area where the script is flipped and that I should remember that the kinds of people they're complaining about are very real and stretch as far as they eye can see in some places (then again the Santorum vote thread reminds me of that as well). That said, I'm not LGBT but with the initial article I thought it was worth pointing out just how fluid, messy, and culturally transferable hate from fundamentalists essentially is for those who may not have a clear concept of it.

From what I saw on CNN on this matter, it wasn't just a matter that the Emo style was, in the eyes of their countrymen, associated with homosexuality or Satan, but also very much with being too western. Then again, they'd probably tell you that satanism and the gay lifestyle are products of the "decadent west."

Just another example of people using religion to justify their utter depravity. Too many people in this world are f***ing pieces of sh**. That's about all I can say.

Agreed too. But such thinking is by no means restricted to the Islamic faith.
