I know, "duh," right? Still, it's a good read. It's surprising and frightening just how much influence this smug, delusional, ignorant, narcissistic psychopath has.

Great read, thanks for the link!

And yes, it is amazing that celebrities have this much influence in our culture...
I can on a level even call people like her as bad as hitler. She's potentially killing children just so they don't have an (Unproven) chance at getting autism. If more people start listening to people like this it could also vastly increase the chances of an outbreak...

How do these people who claim to be "helping" the autistic community think this makes us feel!? Don't they realise this is a part of what makes our lives bad? You're basically telling us that a chance of death is better then a chance of having autism. How about actually helping us by raising awareness so our lives aren't as hard!?

Jenny McCarthy is the textbook definition of psychotic b***h. The only movie I've seen her in... well technically it wasn't a movie, she was the model for the character design of Agent Tanya, the Allied commando unit in Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 and played her in the cameos. That was the number one reason why I didn't get this game until just recently, because I was adamant that any game or movie she's had a hand in isn't worth my money. I later conceded and got the game anyway, but even now I don't like playing as Allies, and if I do I usually rely on their air force rather than their infantry. (Or I just play as Rising Sun, because their commando is awesome. I'd take a psionic Japanese schoolgirl over a washed-up porn star playing soldier any day.)

But yeah, I feel sorry for her autistic kid, mainly because that b***h doesn't seem to give two cents about the positive aspects of autism - no, she's just focused on the negative, these "poor unfortunate children", etc. Jesus H. Christ lady, if dealing with autism isn't bad enough then just go ahead and give the kid an inferiority complex already.

Should I Be proud or not that I have never heard of this women?

But seriously has not the idea that vaccinisations cause autism been toughly debunked and some of the researches disbarred or whatever you call it for their shoddy methods

Great article! Hopefully more celebrities will speak out against this anti-scientific vaccine BS. Amanda Peet is the only celebrity I can think of who is doing so. Here's the link about Amanda Peet: http://www.wrongplanet.net/article372.html

Personally I don't give two hoots about Jenny whatever-her-name is, but for vaccines...? I'm WAY into science, and have been since I was old enough to read at 2. But there has never been true science behind vaccinations, as in double-blind/etc studies done by people who have no axe to grind, no product to market, no philosophy to trumpet.

Vaccines are just put out there and if we like science we trust they are good for us (as I did for decades, until I started actually reading the "studies" being done), and if we don't like science we trust that they're bad for us, but either way no one is truly using real science to discover anything. It's all just forced opinions. I myself would like to see these real studies actually done. Until then, it's just shooting in the dark, whether pro or con.

Finally, someone who actually makes sense! However, you are mistaken that there is no real science behind the "anti-vaccine" movement. For example:

‘Hepatitis B triple series vaccine and developmental disability in US children aged 1-9 years’:

"This study found statistically significant evidence to suggest that boys in US who were vaccinated with the triple series Hepatitis B vaccine, during the time period in which vaccines were manufactured with thimerosal, were more susceptible to developmental disability than were unvaccinated boys."

"Pediatric Vaccines Influence Primate Behavior, and Amygdala Growth and Opioid Ligand Binding" - "Primate development, cognition and social behavior were assessed for both vaccinated and unvaccinated infants... Compared with unexposed animals, significant neurodevelopmental deficits were evident for exposed animals... This animal model...mimics certain neurological abnormalities of autism."

(Note that the second study is an animal study, and should be taken with a grain of salt because all animals have substantial physiological and developmental differences from humans)... however, this should be enough (and there's more where that comes from) to give any reasonable person a start towards finding that the whole vaccine controversy has been whitewashed by pharmaceutical PR whores posing as scientists.

The only part of the OP's post I don't agree with is "Don't Listen to Jenny McCarthy."

You can't counteract bad information if you aren't familiar with it. Ever heard the old proverb? "Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer."

Pay attention to the drivel. If you don't, you won't do or say anything about it, and the drivel soon becomes accepted truth.

Do listen. And do speak up!

Agreed--except the part about the drivel. Skepticism goes both ways. Far too many scientists and doctors are all too willing to take the word of authority without doing any legwork themselves. This is very dangerous.

As for the Cracked article, it contains no useful information whatsoever. Jenny McCarthy is not the most knowledgeable critic of vaccines out there, but she does raise valid points. Modern vaccines are contaminated with genetic material aside from the viruses they are meant to protect against, as well as systemic toxins beside thimerosal (such as aluminum). Furthermore, it is highly questionable that we need ALL of the vaccines that are given in the US nowadays. Many are for benign diseases (such as chickenpox), or for diseases that most babies are not at risk for (such as Hepatitis B). The U.S. infant mortality and disease rate is pretty dismal compared to other industrial nations that give far fewer vaccines. Furthermore, the immune system is not fully developed until around 6 months of age--we didn't used to give babies vaccines before this age. Nowadays, the influenza vaccine (which still contains mercury) is recommended for pregnant mothers!

The media oversimplifies the debate and villifies dissenters. Jenny McCarthy, along with MANY highly qualified medical professionals, hold the legitimate position that more vaccines are not necessarily better. You have to take it on a case-by-case basis. Maybe some children have genetic susceptibilities to being harmed by certain vaccines and should not receive them. Researching these things and screening for them is not at all unreasonable. The pharmaceutical industry has done far more to undermine public confidence in vaccines by intimidating parents and doctors who criticize the vaccination program, covering up or denying evidence that some children are harmed by them, and promoting poorly-conducted studies in support of vaccination while burying high-quality studies that introduce complexity into the debate.

Watch this short video that tells McCarthy's side of the story: http://www.generationrescue.org/home/ab ... -mccarthy/
Don't tell me it's a waste of time--YOU DON'T KNOW THAT. If you haven't investigated all sides of the issue, then you don't have an educated opinion about it.

Sounds like you are actually in agreement, but misunderstood what I meant about paying attention to it. I don't mean give it weight. I mean pay attention to the drivel that is out there, and speak up when you see or hear it, otherwise what drivel does exist can eventually be accepted by enough people to begin being considered uncontested fact.

And you're RIGHT! That IS very, VERY dangerous.

Vaccines, and atomic energy, are insured by the Government, because no sane person would take the bet.

Being immune, not dying, is good, but longer term, perhaps like living in a sterile bubble, Maybe it works, maybe it kills the species, is the bet we have taken.

Our recent ancestors, and those going way back, fought off being infected with all sorts of things, some lived through the worst, and produced us.

There is no telling where this will wind up, all we can say is, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

A lot of our DNA is not ours, it is left from some bug from long ago, that joined us. All of that stuff is growing and mutating, we will meet again.

Like Ripley in Alien, we are family.

With no knowledge of the past, a few generations of vaccines, we are off on an adventure.

The sides are like Creation and Evolution, evolution cannot explain where DNA came from, and the creation side does not want to think of the god who produced sexless blue green Algae as their creator.

Only time will tell.

Oh Jenny.
Go home and spend time with your son instead of spewing this garbage on international TV.
I read her book about her little boy. I do feel quite sad for him because she's very obviously clueless about autism. Why she doesn't spend more time managing it and helping her son to deal with life instead of going on a 'prevent autism!' rampage all over the globe, is beyond me.

It's GENETIC, Jenny. That MEANS somewhere sometime during the process when your DNA and whathisface's DNA was combining to create this new DNA called your child, nature took a slightly different course. (DNA...you guys know what I mean)

What are you going to do? If a high wall built in Japan to keep a tsunami at bay is not going to PREVENT a tsunami from spilling OVER the wall, how are YOU going to prevent AUTISM?

Seriously. You're a bad mother Jenny. Not all of us are psychotic like you. I'd rather have my children alive and healthy and autistic than dead, thank you very much.

Don't have any interest in Jenny McCarthy. Never met her. She sounds like one of those autism-is-a-fate-worse-than-death f**ktards, and if that's the case I resent it, but I'm glad I had Daddy instead of her, and that's all.

I AM, however, interested in neurochemistry and the research.

Can you put this in really little words (like, words for someone with a liberal arts degree rather than one in biochemistry)??

Because I'd really like to learn more about how opioids work in autistic and non-autistic brains. But I'm going cross-eyed reading the Wikipedia article on the subject-- and when THAT doesn't make any sense, I KNOW I'm in over my head.

I believe that autism can have a genetic link. My dad has autistic traits and so does my mother's side of the family. I don't believe that vaccinations would just cause autism, my dad certainly didn't get a ton of vaccinations when he was growing up nor did my mother's side of the family. I think it's possible that autism can result from certain genetic traits that our family has and/or if you have somebody else with a developmental disorder in your family.

Jenny McCarthy is probably not the evil b**** you're all making her out to be. Do I question her motives? Yes. But I'm not in any position to make a judgement of her character.
