Do you think people really got along better a century ago? People always b***h about how 'things are today', but is it really warranted or are people just uneducated?

I vote for not only uneducated but unthinking. Just in terms of modern medicine and dentistry, leave alone all of the social liberties women have gained, I would choose to live now rather than a century ago.

I think compared to 100 years ago, social liberties have gotten better for just about everyone Laughing

Yes, I agree. I should not have limited the statement in that way; I was thinking on a personal level.

Nothing wrong with that

I'd say it's better today. 100 years ago you had a world war brewing, an industrialization running amuck, and a lot more disease and general health problems. I do think that culturally the world was better off 100 years ago than today, but in terms of quality of life I'd certainly pick modern times. Now if you said 200-300 years....I might have more trouble choosing lol. What can I say I'm a junkie for the era!

When Europe was uncivilized, African Americans/Women were second class citizens in America?

A lot of problems have been defeated or severely weakened, but there will be new problems to face. I think that overall, we can be proud of what we have achieved in a few thousand years of civilisation.

In general, if I was given a time machine, I would come to the conclusion that forward = better.

well i do like modern medicine and the internet

Saying that, it would of been kind of cool to live a hundred years ago. Interesting at the very least. I imagine if I lived a 100 years ago I'd be wishing I lived a 100 years in the future.

I agree with the general consensus so far in this thread. For the reasons already mentioned, now is better than 100 years ago. Besides, I can always read about that era in history books, but they could only speculate about what today would be like.

I would guess that 100 years in the future will be better yet, but I am not sure we can correct for the detrimental way we are treating the environment.

I think it depends on the way you look at things.
Society wise, I think there's more justice and equality than ever before however, in environmental terms, I think humans are being self destructive as we're slowly destroying the things that cause us to exist in the first place.

Rolling Eyes

Everyone knows that the World was at its level best when Jesus was alive, and has been in decline ever since. Things won't get good again until Jesus returns to judge the quick and the dead.

Just ask any Conservative.
