Reminds me of the Swiftboat attacks on Kerry *except* that this isnt an organized campaign. Just some people answering questions from reporters who seem to regret their own involvement. If the Democratic witnesses organize as "Cranbrook graduates against Romney" then the comparison will be more direct. And it seems that Romney isnt going to deny it and hopes it will slide as youthful hijinks.

Does he gay bash now?

If he thinks that it will get him votes. And, the fact that he beat up a homosexual will probably help to shore up votes in the Repugnican base, after Frothy got done accusing him of being soft on homosexuality.
While I certainly can believe this story, the cynic in me also has to believe that it is no coincidence that the NC gay marriage vote, Obama's 'evolution' on the gay marriage issue, and this story all drop in the same week. It all seems so orchestrated.
Willard also was a little chickenhawk, got a draft deferment to serve as a missionary in France while protesting in favor of the Vietnam war.
I wish they'd investigate Obama's past like this...

Note to self: do not become a politician. This is a bit worse than most things I did in school, but I'm not innocent.
What he did back then shouldn't affect what he's trying to do now. Judge him by his views, not his actions as a child.
Mr. Romney is very much a coward. He'll beat up on a weaker individual when he has four other toughs holding the individual down. But, he passed up the opportunity to go and "serve his country" in Vietnam, where he would have been at personal risk. And, he is not at all averse to sending others off to fight a war in Iran.
He also doesn't mind destroying the livelihoods of other people, as long as it makes him personally richer.

You should be glad he isn't a serial killer for once.
My thoughts exactly. It wouldn't be fair to judge him in this alone as I know people who acted like jerks in high school who turned out better when they got older. That said, I still don't like the guy and this story certainly doesn't help me think better of him.
It was in high school, so it was in the early or mid 1960s, before the Stonewall raid, and thus before the gay pride movement began. (Romney was born in 1947).
I don't think he "gay-bashes" anymore, and defining marriage as between a man and a woman is not bashing. Bashing would include using the F and D-words to describe LGBT people, and glorifying violence against them.

The hair cutting thing sounds more like a "hippie bashing" incident to me. Like it was against some kind of social code to go to a prep school and not dress and groom like a preppy. It's still a horrible thing to do as the victim obviously didn't take it as a joke or prank. It sounds like typical high-school crap.
