on Patriotism:

Quote:
“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.”
- George Bernard Shaw

“Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons.”
- Bertrand Russell

“Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.”
- Oscar Wilde

“Can anything be stupider than that a man has the right to kill me because he lives on the other side of a river and his ruler has a quarrel with mine, though I have not quarrelled with him?”
- Blaise Pascal

“Patriotism in its simplest, clearest, and most indubitable signification is nothing else but a means of obtaining for the rulers their ambitions and covetous desires, and for the ruled the abdication of human dignity, reason, and conscience, and a slavish enthralment to those in power.”
- Leo Tolstoy

I'll make up a quote.

A conservative is a liberal who's gotten robbed. A libertarian is a conservative who's gotten arrested.

You forgot to say that patriots are bullies but I'm sure one of your kind will come along and add that.

Okay. We'll add that one to the bottom of our list of quotes about Patriotism:

- Leo Tolstoy

"Patriots are bullies."

Who knows? Maybe it will take off, and become a slogan on t-shirts and bumper stickers. I'm proud of you, Raptor!

In terms of opinion on criminal justice and dislike for immigrants, this is what happens very often here. I used to be extremely tolerant until a drug-dealing immigrant family from what I presume to be Cape Verde (might also be the Dominican Republic - they've certainly been there for a while once, judging from their souvenirs) moved into the house next door. My sister's bicycle was stolen from our garden. A friend of mine had his bicycle stolen in broad daylight by a black man. Another two bicycles were stolen a few metres from my house, and someone's car was stolen in broad daylight in view of my living room. A Moroccan attacked me; another destroyed something in my garden; yet another called my mother a white whore for walking a dog. It's these little things that make people extremely uneasy, especially knowing we pay for their health care and housing.

Doesn't have to mention patriotism to be about it.

Military men are “dumb, stupid animals to be used” as pawns for foreign policy.

All you gotta do now is punch one of them defending yourself, and then the arrest part will be covered and you'll be a libertarian.

Many illegal immigrant workers pay the payroll tax without extracting it's benefit.

You go to recitals? And here I thought it was something you only did when nobody was around

Why burn books with nobody around to watch?

If a conservative patriot burns a book all alone in the forest, do gay liberal atheist muslims hear it?
