(I don't know if synesthesia is a psychological condition so if I should move it, please feel free to tell me)
if you have synesthesia, describe what kind you have and how it effects you
for me, I have grapheme-color (letters,numbers,days,month,words have a color) and pain-color, number-personification, number-gender,and object-personification.
my favorite number is 3, because he's shy and sweet.and he's orange, which is my favorite color. I like the personality of my cofie table.she's sweet and caring. I enjoy head-aches because there's gorgeous green-yellow,even though it hurts.
I love synesthesia for the most part. Sometimes the colors I see are indescribable. Like the name kaitlyn is orange with green and yellow mixed in. Or 8 is purple-red.
it helps me remember things, like what number my hotel room number was because I remember the colors.
the only time it gets annoying is when I have sensory overloads (I have aspergers)
how does synesthesia effect you? _________________ --

I am suspected to have aspergers, but I'm not diagnosed. |

I have grapheme-colour synaesthesia. It doesn't affect me too much, just in small ways, e.g. I sometimes get people's names mixed up, calling them by a name that is a similar colour; once at work I said "red" instead of "two" and got a weird look.
I also have spatial-sequence synaesthesia. I never really thought about it affecting me, as I assumed for most of my life that everybody visualised timelines in the same way I do. It's more a case of not being able to live without it, e.g. I have no idea how I could remember what I did last weekend if I couldn't actually see the week there in front of me, and 'go to it'. |

I have ticker-tape synesthesia, where whenever I hear something I see words flash in front of my mind's eye like words on a page. Different conversations have different background colors. I'm an associator - generally, the more interesting a conversation is, the more of my favorite shades the background color will be. The words are always black, though. Listening to someone talk can be like reading a book if I'm paying attention to it.
It affects me in three main ways. First, I HAVE to take notes when I'm in class, because with all those words flying by, I can't keep the main points in my head.
Second, learning a foreign language with a different alphabet is easy, as long as I don't see any transliterations. Then, the transliteration instead of the new alphabet will be what I see when I hear the word.
Last, it really doesn't help my literal thinking. I have Asperger's, and I'm already literal, but when I see the words of slang, it makes the literal-ness worse. I don't know how to describe it. It's like an extra step in decoding the meaning..
But, I love it, because I can learn a bunch of languages and alphabets without having to associate vocab with pictures. I can also memorize things easier, because I see ("read") it every time I say it. |

My synesthesia is related to music, specifically two note intervals, for example the perfect 6th is the most glorious purple and wonderfully desolate while a major 7th is yellow and yearning....it doesnt occur in any other situations for me, although i wish it did because I crave strong emotional responses _________________ "Never get so attached to a poem, you forget truth that lacks lyricism" Joanna Newsome |
