So during my vacation down south, a lot of what was on the radio was country music. I pretty much don't like country music, like most people up North. But, whatever. That said, there was a classic country station up there, and I quite liked it. It seemed to not be much of the 30s type stuff, and more 50s-80s, and I think I'm developing quite an affinity to this kinda music. I first started hearing it a lot in Fallout New Vegas, and then heard some more on the radio, and tada.

I like it, modern country just seems to be about like, it's like rap music for "redneck" white people, really. Pretty much just about how cool it is being southern/a redneck/from the backwoods, and how everyone else is lame. Which I can't really relate to much. But these old country songs, much more relatable songs, nicer slower tempo, they're nice, I guess. Apparently in Europe, they don't listen to modern American country music, and people actually make more classic/traditional country for the European market. Weird, no?

Anyway, anyone else like any classic country, and can direct me toward some stuff?

Well, what you're looking for has a name. It's called Neotraditional Country.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neotraditional_country

The Neotraditional Country is opposed to Modern Country, and it's close to Alternative Country (that sounds more rock) and Bluegrass. Check here: https://www.google.com/search?q=amazon+neo+traditional+country

BTW, I don't where you heard about Europe being a market for old country. I think sometimes that nobody here in Europe listens to country music besides me Laughing (I have only met one person that loved country in years. And she was from Texas!).

I love this kind of music. Classic country is great.

I personally think Garth Brooks put the last nail in the coffin of what I would call country music. There is still good stuff out there, you just wont hear it on most radio stations. A local collage radio station has a weekly alt. country show that plays new tradition style country and old classics.
