I have Aspergers and even though I can be smart I've often been told I'm slow or delayed in some ways. I mostly get called this by my peers and it really seems to make me mad. Am I the only one that gets called this?

I have been called it by people online. In real life, no one has ever said it to my face but my ex told me I am seen as slow by his neighbors who have seen me.

I was called slow in elementary school because I was walking too slow or did my school work too slow because my foot hurt. But I know that is not what you meant. Wink

But I have been called retarded growing up and kids would ask me in my teens if I am or not. I have gotten it online too a few times but mostly by jerks. My ex's parents thought I was mildly retarded according to him. I don't let it bother me anymore if I am seen as slow or retarded.

I've encountered people who mess with me on purpose for their amusement, thinking that I don't understand what they're about. They don't come right out and say it to my face, but I overheard someone once tell her friends, "Hey, watch this," then she came at me with some bizarre thing (don't remember what specifically she said, but it was weird and cruel).

I think people who would do that to another human being are far more disordered than anyone I've met here. They are far more "r-word" than even my nephew with Down's Syndrome. At least you can let your guard down around him because he's always kind and happy to see you.

I haven't as far as I remember, but I do process things slower than others. It takes longer for me to figure out what someone is saying. I also take longer to process ideas and to think of something to say back.

I've always been behind both academically and Socially. It took me a month to realize that my (now ex) liked me and that I should act on it.

I also have the worst reading comprehension rate of everybody in my class because the books have weird ways of being written. So yes, I am slow in multiple ways. The only way I'm not slow in is Walking, which i am probably faster at than running. Its probably that I can solve Rubik's cubes and get Gold Stars in Rock band that I am not called the r-word.

My greatest issue with NTs is their inability to accept differences. I am extremely angry with how I was treated in school just because I was born with something I didn't ask for.

I definitely thought way more logically and deeper then any of my peers, but my poor social skills made me an easy target for humiliation. After my pride had hurt, I would only then finally realized I should of said so-and-so when the a-holes were messing with me to show them that I wasn't as slow as they thought I was.

I've been behind academically for my entire life, though I already knew most of the subject matter before even entering the classroom.

Some people called me slow in the past. Then I started speaking.

I've only been asked if I was the R word 3 times throughout high school. And after that it made me wonder if I was or if I wasn't.

I'm not sure if people perceive me as slow - I like to think that they don't; but I do a lot of weird things, like tics and compulsive movements, as well as stims, and I also sometimes can't talk (among unfamiliar people, often), or sometimes I'll use weird words, or gibberish, or repeat words and things like that. Someone I know told me that she always learns things when she's around me, so at least among friends I suppose I'm not perceived as slow.

Sometimes I think people perceive me as slow, but I don't know for sure.

I am perceived at being stupid because I am not good in the social arena, but I excel academically and at the job. I kind of realized that part of the reason I am perceived as being stupid or uncaring is because of my lack of response. However, if I responded quickly I would sound really stupid. It just really sucks because i never seem to realize if boys like me until they walk away.

No.

I talk fast.

Act fast.

Walk fast.

Read even faster.

I can't deal with slow people. Even with Wii games, I skip through the instructions and finish as quickly as possible. That drives my friends crazy, but sitting there waiting for them to guess the crossword (or do whatever game) for 10 minutes is unbearable. I have little patience.
