Hello out there! (New member)

Hi. I've lurked here for a little while and finally decided to join. I'm 20 years old from the Metro Detroit area; I was professionally diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in summer 2009 at age 17. I currently work as an automotive technician at a Ford dealer, which is the career field I have always wanted to get into. (Can you guess what my obsessive interest is? Razz

). I'm just starting out, right now I am working as an understudy to a 10 year master technician, while doing small jobs on my own. (Hey, its a start!)

I definitely have a lot to talk about. But its past my bedtime, so I'll have to keep this post short and sweet. I guess the biggest thing I want to bring up here is the fact that I personally don't wear my Asperger's on my sleeve and I don't like to make a big deal out of it; I just went to blend in with the rest of society the best I can. Really, I have only told the people closest to me that I have it. Everyone else I don't say anything to, I only admit to having it if they ask. (For example, the technician that is mentoring me is married to a psychologist who specializes in autism and developmental disabilities, so he pegged me real quick and I admitted to him that I have it.) Me being this way has a lot to with some experiences from when I was first diagnosed, as well as me just being annoyed with the people who wear their autism on their sleeves and use it as a crutch. (Like the Chris-Chan idiot from YouTube).

Anyways, with that out of the way, I'm glad to be here. I look forward to joining in the discussion and I am happy that I can connect with other people who are dealing with the same things I am.
