|
|
Does anyone here have little strange habits or anything similar, even what are odd to other Aspies? There is no proof of it being something to do with AS because I don't know what NTs do behind closed doors, but we are more likely to do strange things for strange reasons, and I was wondering if anyone else here does little things that only you do? (Well, others in the world might do it but I mean something so unique to most people).
There are 3 little odd things that I do:-
Have my watch 15 minutes slow to give me the illusion of time going quicker (but knowing the real time by looking 3 numbers ahead on my watch from where the big hand is pointing to)
Shove anti-bacterial handwash up my nose when with somebody with a cold or a flu so that the cold and flu germs will die once up my nose
I like houseflies.
Can anyone beat me by writing even weirder little quirks that you do here? (If that's possible?) _________________ Real gender: Female

I always park my car the farthest away from the store as possible. This is so I don't "loose" it since I'm bad at making "mental maps" and I almost never can find my car in parking lots.
When I go to the store, I need to lap the entire store at least once.
There are many "hot foods" I prefer to eat cold, and many "cold foods" I prefer to eat warm.
I was abnormally well-behaved as a child.
I have a talent for summarizing.
BTW, excellent thread. _________________ "If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced." |

Wow I also park far away from the store or any business when I go out as well, but I do this so I feel like I can get out without backing into somebody or something. |

-I wiggle my fingers when I'm reading, it's definitely a stim but it's a very weird stim...also I don't do it around other people haha
-I usually do my makeup the same way everyday, including the same colours and I usually stick with one pair of shoes and one purse until I need a new one, I don't have a collection and pick and choose like most women
-I love routine, organization, lists, agendas and point form
-I wear g-strings not for the looks but because I find them more comfortable can't stand thongs though
-sometimes when I'm watching tv, I like switching between 2 channels during commercials and sometimes I play games like if I have the product they're advertising then I'll switch back to the other channel to see of the show is back yet
-when I'm reading I like putting adjectives before certain words to make them sound better
-I like the smell of glue, paint and permanent marker
-I'm obsessed with straight hair and I spend a lot of time and money to try and get my hair straight
-I blush easily, sometimes when people ask me if I'm lying I blush even when I'm not really lying making me look guilty anyway |

| I talk to houseflies and other bugs that come into my house. sometimes I forget that animals can't understand me, but I once had a dog and a cat that I am sure really did understand what I was saying. |

I eat ramen dry right out of the wrapper
Sometimes I play guitar just for my birds, occasionally I'll toodle my recorder wildly with no structured fingering
I have an extremely difficult time finding naughty pictures on Google
I fight the urge to correct posts on wiki and WP
I multi-limb-stim
I cook most foods right in the can on the stove
I'll wash clothes in the sink or bathtub
I modify my driving to avoid stopping as much as possible
I don't like to eat food someone else has already eaten.
There's more, just haven't had an energy drink today _________________ "You're probably wondering why I'm here, and so am I, so am I" (not that it makes a heck of a lot of a difference anyway) |

I can't really read something unless I make a proper beginning and end for the process - that means, I focus on the text and then close my eyes for a few seconds before I starty reading... then I close my eyes for a few seconds after I stop reading as well.
If I don't do this little ritual, the text isn't "officially" considered read, so I have to re-read it |

I often sing what I am doing, re-writing the lyrics to a real song to go along with the task. _________________ Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Whenever I have a stomachache (whether anxiety-induced or otherwise), I touch my mouth with a terrycloth towel in order to see if it will make me vomit. This is because I used to vomit into terrycloth towels when I was a child. The reason I do this ritual is because I go by Bill Murray's logic in What About Bob - "If I fake it, then I don't have it" (hope that makes some kind of sense)
Related to the above, when I have a stomachache, I will also open up my windows or go outside to breathe fresh air. This is because when I was nauseous as a child, my parents took me outside and told me that the fresh air would help.
I run around in a pattern while listening to music. This is because this is the best way to get lost in my imaginary world, and also because I get restless sometimes.
Sometimes while reading, if I find myself not paying attention, I will re-read the passage I just read, sometimes several times in a row, just to make sure I've "absorbed" it.
I have an imaginary world that includes all of my favorite characters from whatever shows and movies I'm obsessed with at a given time. I love to pair them off into couples and make up children for them. |

I do this too - driven by the mental images in my head. Every song creates a different image, hence a different running pattern |

I eat everything I can with my fingers. If I'm at home and it's *too* messy or hot to eat with fingers, I prefer using a baby spoon.
I chew a pacifier before I go to sleep.
I make faces at people (like a kid).
I mimic animals. Frequently.
I walk around with one eye closed more often then not. I drive this way sometimes, as well.
I match my perfume to my clothes by color of bottle.
I am obsessed with things that glow in the dark, and with monkeys.
I cannot walk on anything I can see through, such as sewer grates and glass (like aquariums that pass under a walkway)
I skip or side-shuffle to catch up with people.
I prefer standing on one foot, with the other on my thigh like a '4'.
I cannot sit with my feet on the floor, instead, I put one leg completely over the other and sit semi-cross-leg.
When I am interested in or confused by something, I lean my head to the side like a dog. |

Can't really think of any now and I do find it necessary to eat chocolate nearly every day.
I do like routine, but will go out of my routine if I plan ahead.
When I go somewhere new I must locate and remember landmarks so I don't get lost when coming back out to return home.
Often I will go a few weeks or more and watch a few favorite music videos on Youtube until I move on a to new favorite music videos. _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure." |
