|
|
I have two autistic kids. We claim disability tax credit for one of them. (It's just a tax deduction, not a benefit.) We didn't apply for the other one. He's a bit higher functioning than the other so DH, being the good citizen thinks we shouldn't claim it. He's also wondering if applying that and getting the disability label could have negative impact on the boy's future.
Has anyone ever regretted about such things? Like, getting some tax refund is good of course, but did it ever come to haunt you when it comes to schools or jobs? What about driving, joining the military or working for the government? Could they dig up the disability label and say he doesn't qualify? _________________ Aspie mom to two autistic sons (11 & 9 ) |

I guess nobody here knows anything about that, eh? Well we will probably just try to apply. I seriously doubt my kids would even want to join the military anyway, plus anybody who sees them can tell they're "different". It's not like we can hide that fact easily. _________________ Aspie mom to two autistic sons (11 & 9 ) |

| According to my mom's research there the government record for disability tax credit is only used for that and nothing else. It would not ruin his chances of getting a government job or anything. My mom got the disability tax credit for me for years, but then recently they asked us to renew our application form and it was denied.....my mom is appealing the decision now. My diagnoses are AS and NVLD. |

The disability tax credit is a good one. I can't speak for myself because my daughter, who is also higher functioning, has a chronic illness and already claims it (you can only claim it once for one thing.) But I would of probably applied had if she didn't have a prior medical condition. I highly doubt applying for it will affect future employment and other opportunities. _________________ Have a child with AS and I also suspect that some family members have undiagnosed AS.
