Very good article - some of these professions that attract psychopaths come as no surpise (lawyer, CEO, police officer) but others like chef kind of make you wonder!! also, about the lawyer stereotype, I always did kind of wonder that being a lawyer requires intellect and psychopaths are of average intelligence (IQ) - clearly it's their super-high street smarts that propel them in the post as unethnical as their practices are!!! still, I have met a couple of psychopaths in my life who were of moderate intellect and would not have made good lawyers, they did various salesperson jobs after being fired from one to the next. I always thought Aspies would make good lawyers due to their positive traits, but I can easily see a psychopath sabotaging one of them out of the job, even getting him disbarred, due to the naive trust inherent. So, look at the list, maybe it will give you insights on what to avoid:

| Psychopaths often hate authority figures, and because of this they crave control. Whether it is personal control over others, such as CEO or lawyer or politician, or something where they can imitate strength and power, like a journalist or a celebrity, they need constant stimulation. A psychopath always needs to be kept busy, unlike Asperger's, where constant boredom can be self-cured. A job like 'secretary' would be the worst kind for a psychopath, because not only is it strictly subordinate, there isn't constant stimulation. Sure, there is a lot of work to be done, but it isn't the same thing. I'm not quite sure how to explain what I mean though. |

I used to work in a TV station control room and I could believe the Chief Executive there was a psychopath.
Also, anyone click the test? I got just 9 out of 33.
Some questions were borderline for me. Like would I like to drive fast cars, go on roller coasters, or jump out of an airplane. I'm not a fan of roller coasters that much and I don't want to jump out of a plane, but I would enjoy driving a fast car. |

Somehow I don't think military would be one profession where you'd find many of them. As odd as that might seem at first glance and considering the demeanour of the commanding officers. My rationale is that in the military, you've got to start out as a private and you don't have much room to manipulate or intimidate the drill sergeant - it will be too humbling an experience for a psychopath.
I can totally see clergy in there - organized religion has long been hijacked and corrupted by psychopaths wanting to exert their will on the masses or manipulate children into heinous acts for the clergyman's warped jollies. Don't get me wrong, I really like the notion of a church that espouses values of Christianity and such, but like I said, such institutions get subverted by the unsavoury. |

Scored a 2 out of 33.
But it seems society puts a value on those with the tendencies shown on the test. |

You better believe it! Businesses reward psycho/sociopaths because it's modeled after one! They make good managers too because they can whip the peons with no empathy or mercy. |
Not to be annoying, but the reverse is true: Psychopaths are modeled after businesses. They are the personification of industrial inefficiency. |

I'm much better at making myself look attractive than I used to be, precisely because I'm more self-absorbed and vain than I used to be. Makes sense the more I think about it.
I'm never going to be a psychopath though. |
