I was, and still am,bullied severely :(

In second grade I was on the bus and saw a kid bullying someone. The bully was very small, so I called him a first grader. I hoped that would make him leave the other kid alone. That happened, but he turned on me. He shouted "I'm not a first grader! I'm in 5th grade!" And I replied "you don't look like a 5th grader". I did not understand that other people had feelings  .After this went on for a while he grabbed me by the neck with both hands and started choking me. He kept doing it and I couldn't breath :( not only that, but no one helped me.

What happened to you?

Post your stories here!

EDIT: wow! I'm surprised at all the responses this has gotten!

I wished you had kicked him good and hard in the nuts. I was bullied, and when cornered i'd try to find another corner. but there came a point where I had to fight back, ineffectually for the most part.

Oh boy, I have so many stories. My childhood was altogether pretty good, but I have some awful memories. The first instance of bullying I can remember occurred when I was four. My next door neighbor started yelling that I was weird when I started my vocal patterns and started choking me. My father had to pull her off of me. When I was five it was a regular occurrence to get pushed into walls and mud for being a "know-it-all." That same year my best friend got scared off by bullies and didn't talk to me again for over three years. To this day he still believes what my bullies told him. After this I withdrew into myself and didn't make many friends, the few I did manage to make eventual abandoned me because I was weird and unpopular.

My middle school years were a mess. We'll leave it at that as I have repressed a lot of my memories from those years.

Fast forward to high school and I encountered typical mean girls. I got made fun of for my choice in dress and generally excluded from many group activities. In my co-op classes I was called the "homeschool dork" (though we were all homeschooled so I never understood why that insult was supposed to hurt). During my sophomore year I nearly walked into the trap of a pervert who wanted to pay me to sleep with him, that got me made fun of for being naïve. My junior year I faced off with someone who had been tormenting me for years. He told me that I was an ideological, ignorant b**** (I refuse to swear) and that he hoped I would be raped.

Yeah, so that's pretty much my bullying stories condensed into two paragraphs. It'll be interesting to see what other people's stories are!

Everybody gets bullied at one time or another in their life. You just got to deal with it.

Unless the bullies are physically hurting you, I'd just ignore them as much as possible. Eventually they will get bored, and leave you alone.

I tried to ignore them but they just got meaner and upped the bullying and teasing-they do not stop when you ignore them the just put more pressure on you.

when you run out of corners [to be cornered in] you have to fight back.

and if I did anything back I was the one that got in trouble and the bully or bullies would be waiting to exact revenge if you did fight back because now they had to teach you another lesson because how dare you try and fight back.

It was the wealthier kids that gave me fits. Those that were considered scum, like myself, we're the ones that stood up for me. That's why it's always good to have, to quote the Garyh Brooks song, "friends in low places."

The worst I was bullied in high school was by this snot-nosed bastard who thought he was Gods gift to mankind. After gym class, he stripped his jock strap over my face. He, as well as the gym teacher stood there and laughed after he did that. Fortunately, my friends in low places saw this happening. The next time gym class met that week, they had a little surprise for him. He never again bothered me after getting a dose of his own medicine.

I hate the schools attitude of "boys will be boys" while they watch and do nothing

Of course. You'll be tried more before they stop. And it only works if you don't care. Don't cry, don't get mad, don't tell. I highly recommend this book: "Bullies to Buddies: How to Turn Your Enemies Into Friends" by Izzy Kalman.

Although that shouldn't be the case because bullying is typically felonious behavior. It is only viewed as somewhat benign because people are willing to make excuses for the bullies.

This is a lie. You may genuinely believe it, but it simply does not work that way. Ignoring a bully is more likely to lead to escalation. Ignoring a bully simply tells the bully that you are willing to take it.

I believe it would be more appropriate to treat bullying as the harassment, assault, and battery that it is and enforce appropriate legal repercussions for breaking the law.

That book strikes me as nonsense because it places the responsibility for being bullied onto the targets' shoulders as opposed to placing the responsibility for actually bullying onto the bullies' shoulders. Victim-blaming doesn't really help, and typically makes things worse.

a bully cornered me in my locker, and my only defense was to use my steel-toed shoes against his kneecaps. he left me alone thereafter.

Very little. I was a big kid in height and weight (fat) so I do not recall any fights or physical harm. I do remember one time when a small bully in my grade hugged me because I am sensitive to touch. I did not really care and not much came from it. The most annoying thing was when a kid purposely got in front of me and stopped walking while I waited a bit until walking past him. Not sure what the point of that was, but it lasted for awhile.

If others tried to bully me or get me into trouble, it did not work as I often ignored as I did not care about their opinions. I think since they did not get any entertainment in bothering me they moved on. Or since the school system where I live is small and has higher standards than many parts of the country, the kids in general were nicer when I was in school.
