An article summing up the video:

Quote:

/.../ the list of offenses charged against Dina Abou Karam, the community manager for the official site, pointed out in the video are as follows:

- suggesting that Beck be changed from a boy robot hero into a girl robot hero.

- feminist quips about Sweden’s gender issues.

- not a Megaman player, but then backpedals by saying Megaman X is the best Megaman game she ever played.

- nepotism, because she got her job at the company from a friend.

- designing robots for the game, which worries people because (a) her artwork sucks, and (b) her feminism deal might affect the designs.

- locking her twitter account after so many people posting asking for clarifications.

- re-opening her twitter and then deleting said posts.

Personally, I'm now very glad that I had all my spare money locked in other investments, when the Kickstarter was running. Meh, I have always loved Mega Man, ever since I was little.... :/ I guess it is a dream never to come true that games like Mega Man, and as good as Mega Man, will come back, anytime soon. :/ I kind of knew this project had to be too good to be true.... =_=

A sad tale. I would be furious if I were invested in or hoping for this.

From what I've heard, she will have very little impact on the game itself. She's being paid to draw what they tell her to draw, and not the other way around...but that's just what I heard.

I think it's rather mean to say that her artwork "sucks", though... it doesn't suck - it's just very much NOT Japanese in style, and definitely not in character of artwork that should be in Mega Man. However, it's of course easy to just plain say it sucks when she apparently has been very impolite towards people, in the past, and even bullied people out of the forums. It troubles me that she will be allowed to do character design works, though - if she doesn't understand how Mega Man artwork should be, it's hard for her to do a good job.

Some people say that Keiji Inafune simply won't allow anyone to screw this project up, but I'm not sure if I can believe in that, myself... after all, he's even said that westernized games are much better than Japanese, or those that are Japanese in style, and he also did not create Mega Man - the only character he's created by himself is Zero (he even wanted Zero to be the lead character of Mega Man X). He only helped design the appearance of the original Mega Man, too - a very good job, though, I might say, but still... he's not the creator. Rather, many people were - him included. He's even admitted it, himself: www.gamespot.com/articles/tgs-07-mega-m ... 0-6179759/

Maybe it'll turn out okay, though... after all, you can't really expect everyone to be really into Mega Man, who works on a project that only is very Mega Man-like. However, Inafune has also said that he wouldn't mind turning it into a proper Mega Man game, if Capcom would just agree to it, without intervening with the way it's developed... but I guess things can never be perfect. -.- When it's a Kickstarter project, though, it seems reasonable to allow those who have contributed with funds to have a say in things that may affect the project in a negative way. That would, of course, be very difficult to manage in a good way, without it starting to intervene with the way the developers work, so maybe it's not really possible to realize such a system.

How would anything she's done ruin this game exactly? Even if her suggestions were taken to heart (which isn't happening), I fail to see how this would hurt the game in any significant way. If the main character was changed to female or they made a second playable female character how would this affect the fun of a game? What's so wrong with suggesting a female protagonist? How would a feminist design (not sure what that means) make the game suck?

It sounds like very suggestion of a game with a capable and fully dressed female hero upsets some gamers to the point that they will take even an innocious suggestions (like this one) as evidence of some vast feminist conspiracy to ruin videogames for men.

This is no different than white people getting upset over the idea of a black santa.
