Hi there I am thinking about putting together a social club for aspies in the Liverpool and merseyside area. However it would not be just for those who live in Liverpool it would just be based here here. Aspies from any part of the world be free to attend.

Iknow the national autistic society advertise similar groups on their website but the nearest one to Liverpool is Manchester.

I'm thinking it could lead to day trips , Christmas parties, singles nights charity days and the likes.

My plan is to arrange a meeting at a convenient venue to pool our thoughts then take it from there.

Come one guys why should we have to put up with the nights out our NT associates provide or just "hang out on line" I'm sure we could do better.

Any one up for this? Let me know possible venues and dates. Personally I think the lady of Mann pub off dale street is an ideal venue for our first meeting. A date? As soon as we can organise something really.

Can't see the harm in setting this up, I may think about attending if I can. Good luck :)

Yes, I'm interested. I don't live in Liverpool but it's only a short drive away and I like the idea of meeting up. { Tequila replied to your post on Tue Mar 11, 2014 9:42 pm before you nudged it over to here). Tequila and I know each other from a fortnightly social group in Bamber Bridge. There's a small number of us who have been meeting up in Ormskirk (Brunchtimes at Brookes Bistro) and Newburgh (DE-SNARLING social nights - that is, in the Lancashire and Wigan areas (UK). I've not thought to put these onto the NAS website . . . maybe it would be a good idea for me to look into that at some stage. )

The pub you suggested Lady of Mann Pub looks to be fairly central to Liverpool at 19 Dale St, Liverpool L2 2EZ. Can you advise on how far from which train station and from car parking (and price of car parking if poss) . . . and suggest what days/ times /dates you might prefer, then anyone interested can chip in with comments?

Thanks for your interest. Everything's at an early stage yet. I can't fix a date or book a venue until I know a decent number of people are interested id say once we have about 20 people up for it I can book a venue. I'd aim to give about 4-6 weeks notice of a time. Experience from organising nt events suggest that not everyone interested actually attends id think we need at least ten people to attend to make the event viable. I ve chosen the lady of Mann because it's a laid back pub with no idiots drinking there. It also has the option to hire a room, and is a 2 minute walk from moor fields train station. There is a council ran car park nearby and I'll check the prices. However I would like to point out the lady of Mann is just a suggestion. When I've got enough numbers I'll also look at costs of hiring meeting room in one of the city centre hotels and compare cost and availability to the lady of Mann.

I am up for any suggestions on locations and dates. One thing I do insist on is that it has to be in Liverpool City centre, as it's easily accessible and an area where people are familiar with

Can you also give me details of the burscough club I would be interested in attending?

Just an update. We wouldn't be able to hire a room in the lady of Mann so if we did meet there to would just have to as ordinary customers. They wanted me to buy a buffet for a minimum of 30 people to hire the room and at 6.95 a head and no other form of funding I would need to spend a huge amount of my own money. I will keep looking for other alternatives. With regards to time I think Saturdays are a good time possibly late afternoon evening as that's when few people are at work. Personally as I work 4 till 9 Monday to Fridays I wouldn't be able to do a mid week evening and i think mid week day times would be clash with a lots of peoples working day. If any one has any ideas or opinions I would be grateful for them. Also if anyone can point me in the direction of any funding I would be grateful. I am prepared to pay my share of the costs but I can't pledge the kind of money the lady of Mann want for a project at such an early stage with no garuntee of success.

Thanks for any help guys

Jay,

You're not going to get 20 people for one good reason...nobody knows you. No-one with autism is going to bother looking in a public place for someone they don't know. How do i know this? I have tried it myself.

That's why I wanted to hire a private meeting room, rather than a public place Dok. But that costs money and for the reasons mentioned above I can't commit anything untill I know it's viable.

Even a private meeting place is no guarantee of success. If your expecting 20 your going to be disappointed.

I run a group in St.Helens, If you want to meet me to discuss this send me a direct message and i will make an appointment.

Absolutely. 20? No way. I'd be surprised if there was more than, say, seven of us.

TenPencePiece: We'll have to meet up sometime. :)

NumberNineJo: Liverpool Lime Street station is three-quarters of a mile away from the pub. It's easy to get to.

There's an NCP car park a short distance - £7 for the day. To be quite honest, I'd make a day of it if you're going to do that.

I'm willing to give it a go with smaller numbers but it wouldn't be be a private meeting room just a get together. Let me know if your interested. We would have to work out the best place to meet though.

Right let's do it then :) when's every one available? I can do any weekend between now and may. I am probably going to be able to do mid week over Easter ( I'm just waiting on my family's plan for a holiday) should also be available over the first week in May. If everyone puts a favourite time on here. Then we can see what's best. I'd prefer Saturday pm or eve or any time Sundays. Over to you guys. Let's make this happen :D

Can you get up to Southport? It might be easier for everyone to get to.
