Sometimes I hear "someone" whispering my name behind me at school but I turn around and nobody's there

Are you taking any psychiatric medication? I have had this happen to me when I first started taking a new anti-depressant. For me these types of mild auditory hallucinations seem to be a side effect of taking SSRI's. I have never sought help for it. It hasn't happened to me in a long time either because I no longer take SSRI's for depression.

It may be a symptom of an underlying condition. I gather auditory hallucinations are a common symptom of various disorders. Maybe worth asking a doctor if it is worrying you. It might not be anything serious.

I don't know really.

This sort of thing happens to me quite often.

One time, I was up a ladder at work painting the ceiling and I heard a whisper in my ear say "careful".

It was a bit weird but I just laughed and wrote it off.

If you are worried you should just mention it to the doctor.

I voted "Yes". To me you are normal but if you are not thought to deal with these whispering changes, they may grow into a bigger problem.

My advice is to see a doctor. It may not be anything serious but it could be, just make sure.

I've read (many years ago) that hearing your name means that you have a "healthy" mind, but don't trust it.

I agree. See a mental health professional. He or she will be able to tell you if it is something to worry about or not.

This used to happen to me all the time, especially when I was in my basement, wrapped up in something on the computer and my parents would shout to get my attention, which annoyed the living hell out of me. At one point, they did it so much that I started hallucinating them shouting just out of the blue, and when I went upstairs and asked them what they wanted, they would just say that they didn't call for me.

Similarly, back when I was in high school, in one of my classes the as*hole kids made a habit of shooting rubber bands and paper wasps at me, as well as throwing other random stuff, and this really pissed me off. Again, it started happening so often that I would hallucinate these kids throwing stuff at me, and I would get pissed off at them just out of the blue.

If there's one thing I loathe about being on the autism spectrum, it's my sensory issues. Sometimes I just wish I could be an insensitive f**k like everyone else, though when I consider that my sensory issues have a bit of a silver lining, what with my somewhat-heightened senses, I also wonder how people could get by without "feeling" things as much as I do.

Remember, when you talk to god they say you are praying. But when god talk to you you get labelled schizophrenic.

If it bothers you see a professional. Otherwise don't worry about it.

Hearing your name isn't a sign of mental illness. On the other hand if you were hearing voices criticizing you, making fun of you, telling you to kill yourself, commanding you to do things, etc., i would say see a doctor.

I wrote no as in, even if it's a psychological issue you just need to see a doctor and get to the bottom of it.
