Is this an appropriate move to make with a Turkish girl?

I'm in love with a girl who lives in Turkey, (I'm Turkish) and she's 12, and I'm 15, and I want to express how I feel about her somehow, but first I just wanna be friends. But when the time comes I wanna give her a love poem I wrote about her, because a Turkish person advised me to do that. But is it appropriate?

No one can give you a yes or no answer to this one. It all depends on context. That said, you should probably wait with the poem until you have more common ground with her, and feel that you have connected to her in a more meaningful way.

When I was at school (by your age) my friend left a poem for a girl and she showed it to the whole school to make a mockery case of him. Are you sure she's not a mean girl?

Kardeş, first just get to know her a lil' bit. Greet her warmly, talk about school and stuff, laugh and enjoy. Then, when you feel like she's more comfortable with you, then ask her if she likes literature and poems. Then it'll work out just fine. Iyi şanslar, pal.

In theory Turkey is a secular state, in practice there are a significant number of Muslims in the country and they have their own rules about women. Head down to the library or, even better, the local Mosque and find out about this for yourself before going further.

Note: The word 'Islam' means 'to teach' so you'll probably find that they are quite open to enquiries.

Ha! I think you'll find it is Classical Arabic for 'submission'.
