For those who have trouble keeping eye contact, is it the same with pets?

I find eye contact with animals very soothing and relaxing. I don't always have problems with eye contact with people though. I usually have people eye contact issues if I am stressed.

No. Any form of eye contact, whether it's with a human or animal, unnerves me.

strangely enough I don't have any trouble with looking at my cat in the eye.
I don't find it as intimidating as it is with people.

What a great question!

Ok..humans, not much eye contact from me.
I look at mouths. If you're not Too close,
they can't tell that you're not making eye contact.
I've checked with friends on this.
I could pick a celebrity out of a mouth line-up.

As for animals.. totally eyes.
Dogs, cats, horses, wild animals, whatever.
I think it is the 'real' you get with animals.
No phony crap or games.
There is no hidden agenda when you're eyes meet.

I don't think I find it as unsettling, but since I know many (most?) animals percieve eye contact as threatening I tend not to.

I'm going to say probably yes when it comes to pet dogs and cats. Or at least I don't think I would have a problem with it. But I think I also would not have a problem making eye contact with a baby either.

I rarely have problems with any eye contact. I only have problems if I'm in a cluttered environment.

Sometimes when I know they are judging me I find it hard. Other times I love it and I love to look at my dog's wide chocolate brown eyes. I think my dog looks straight in my eyes compared to cats. Cats will look at me when they are hungry but any other time they look off to the side.

Could it be because we're not self-conscious with them?

Amazing! I finally trained myself to look people in the eye very briefly, and that took years. But animals - no problem! I wonder why. I know that with dogs, blinking means "I love you" - I found that out with a small puppy when I blinked at him and he went ecstatic. Somebody above mentioned non-judgmental - it might have something to do with that.

I'm fascinated by animals' eyes; I wonder if they know more than we think they know.

I also like to look into babies' eyes, though from a little distance. I wonder if they know more than we think we know.

I don't usually know the eye color of any particular person, unless I bother to look. I make superficial eye contact in social situations. Most times, I avert my eyes, especially when I like someone in more than a friendly way.

When i am super upset, I curl up with my yorkie poo and tell her everything that bothers me. We look into each others eyes at the same time. It gives me such comfort

i was thinking about what Ezra posted, and I think that I enjoy looking into babies eye as well.

Most all animals don't lie like people do. It is easy on me. People have heads full of junk, and I don't like it. I know my mom well enough to look into her lying eyes. When she defends herself things get really blank. It's just creepy.

i don't, eyecontact feels like a sign of agression or assumed dominance, wether it is with a human or not is irrelevant.
i will use direct eyecontact to intimidate animals if needed, but that's about it
