For the past few months I have been thinking about to joining Wrong Planet, now here I am! :)

I am twenty one years old. I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS when I was sixteen years old. Before that, life was very hard; especially during my four years in a foreign country where I could not speak the language. Even in an English-speaking youth group: My mum would try to let the instructors know that when I go someplace with a group, an eye must always be kept on me; if that doesn't happen, I could get lost. I don't think that they understood how important this was (probably because I was not diagnosed yet). I have gotten lost before, but that is a story for another time.

Now that I am diagnosed, life has been getting increasingly better.

I wanted to say hi, and also, I was wondering; could you guys let me know if any of you are/were also a Military brat with Autism? If so, what is/was it like for you personally?

hiya Harmony :) welcome to the club 8) I was born at the tail end of being a military brat. I never got to live in any neat foreign country, but I do have an autism spectrum disorder.

Thank you! This world needs people like you and my father who are here to protect the world from danger. Even though my dad's job makes my family move very often, I feel very honored and proud of my dad for what he does. :)

Hi HarmonySeptember,

Welcome to WrongPlanet. I hope you find some good friends here :)

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
