Does irony really exist in every situation?

I don't even know what irony is, to be truthful.

One irony would be with Westboro Baptist Church picket bringing people together peacefully, defiantly, and uniting them which they have done.
Westboro wants the opposite to occur, for people to become angry, disorganized and then do "what God wants."
This is an example of one of their ironies. There are many others. Like, when they accuse others being boastful and full of pride and vanity then they brag about their pickets and signs and how they upset people.

That's what Alanis Morissette would have us believe.

The original title was 'A Pisser' - "Isn't it a pisser, don't you think?/Another goddamn pisser, yeah I really do think" - but they had to change it for radio/mtv play.

I wouldn't call it that. It's more like the opposite of the intended effect. Like when a bad situation turns out good or a good, bad, despite what is intended. Or that someone behaves a certain way and scorn the same thing in others yet can't see they are the same way. You could compare it to hypocrisy in this respect.
Another Westboro irony is they tend to worship their picket signs and you see this if you pay any sort of attention to their twitter account. They absolutely worship those signs and pickets kinda like they would an idol and they constantly rag others of worshiping idols and say they aren't God's elect because they are breaking commandments.
The strangest Westboro irony of all is they are constantly in God's whirlwind except it's metaphorical, not literal, yet they are completely blind to it. They scream about others whirlwinds all the time. Clearly, in some of the Bible passages, the whirlwind is written like a metaphor.

The "ironies" in her song "Ironic" are not really "ironies". They are "bummers", or "pissers" though.

Sometimes. There are many different types of irony.

If someone says something they obviously do not mean, that is verbal irony (sarcastic remarks are the best example).

This website gives a good summary: http://www.wright.edu/~martin.maner/def ... 0irony.htm

That's a good link, thanks.

It also got me wondering how often authors are conscious of irony or does it creep into their story without them realizing it? I am often keenly aware of irony in real life situations which most do not seem to be aware of. This is why I asked the question.

A personal fav. to illustrate:

A prominent California poet who used to give spoken essays on PBS TV happens to be of Salish tribe of that state.

He told of a group of blue eyed white hooligans who noticed his brown native American skin. They responded to him as they did to all brownskinned folks they saw, and hollared at him to "GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM".

This caused him to bend over laughing aloud.

In his words:

"It wasnt a 'hate crime'. It was a crime of irony."

Judging by my experience watching videos at the Indian museum on the Washington Mall, and articles I read online about Indians.

It seems white people are what remains DNA-wise of some of these Indian tribes. You will see "white people" explaining their Indian heritage. So, in modern days, white people are "home".

My mom was eligible for free college in my state because 1/8 Indian is enough for the state to provide "reparations" with free tuition. I missed out, because I am only 1/16!

Thats stretching the truth considerably.

Though less than two million Americans are even close to being full blooded Indigenous Americans, the number of Whites, with some Indian blood is indeed in the 40-50 million range. But thats still a minority of Whites.

But on the other hand - some White Americans are worried about "the bronzing of America" because of all of these hispanics crossing the Rio Grande. These Mexican and central and south american migrants are mostly mestizo, or even pure Indian. So the intruders are also "native americans". So in a sense - the Indians ARE taking back America.
