My name is Charles Mabe. I am autistic and I have an attachment disorder. I am also a survivor of childhood abuse and neglect. However, I don't take these things too internally, preferring to use my experience and insight to help make other people's lives better.

I am unemployed, but I blog, go to college, volunteer in the community, and even do a little public speaking. I like Linkin Park, pizza, and console video games (but not FPSs or zombie games such as The Last of Us).

I am currently writing the script for a novel and video game that is partly an inspirational autobiography and partly a thrilling work of science fantasy. It's called The Solemn Dream, and more information about it can be found on my blog, which is shown in my signature.

I want to try to do a little less lurking and be a little more involved, so here's to the future. Hi everyone!

Autism! :P

I'll expand my topics in the future though, after I've been in college longer and have posted a few dozen more articles on my blog.

I'm going to college to be more active in the community. Getting an actual degree would be too much stress.

It's like no other work ever made. I would love to talk about it somewhere, anytime. While it's true that the main form of the work IS a video game, it's very cinematic in nature, and the work also comes in the form of a novel. The game is more story than game, and it's full of unique, awesome, and inspiring concepts. I would certainly enjoy sharing them, too!

You can't really steal a detailed autobiography...

Maybe it's my fault and I wasn't clear. The Solemn Dream is both an autobiography and a work of fiction, and it will come primarily as a game due to the need to showcase art and the songs I wrote, but it will also come as a novel. And you can't really steal an autobiography, so it would be extremely difficult to steal the game idea. I know it all sounds confusing, but it's actually pretty simple.

I've had trouble summarizing the basic idea of the work, and have tried a number of synopses. Here's one that's not perfect. It lacks focus on the fictional elements, but it's one of my latest:

Quote:
The Solemn Dream (game & novel) is the autobiography of Charles Mabe within a fictional dream.

Overwhelmed by disappointment as well as childhood abuse and neglect, a maladapted young man has a lucid dream in which he is a small child in order to obtain the affection that he was denied and to escape from shameful misunderstanding from others. Discontent with letting the catastrophic effects of his development sweep him away, he passionately pursues the wisdom and fortune needed to right the world’s wrongs and to give the less fortunate and less gifted the opportunity to help bring great things to the world. Guided by an elusive creation of his subconscious, he is promised to find within the dream the answers he seeks. But after finding much-sought family, friends, understanding, and emotional comfort in his dream, his dream is threatened to end prematurely, which could leave him never knowing what he needs to know in order to make his impact on the world.

By learning about the nature of dreams, the young man gains the power to control things inside them– and to learn quite a bit about himself. Accompanied by his new-found family and friends and equipped with his new abilities, he fights the people who threaten to end the world of the dream– so that it can live long enough to help him effectively fight for the world of reality.

Genres: Autobiography, Contemporary Urban Science Fantasy
Sub-genres: Action, Martial Arts

The world of the dream works like a real dream does and has a lot of fantasy and science fiction elements. It's pretty heavy and unique. There is extended information about it on my blog at http://thesolemndream.com/solemn-dream
