I'm Muslim, and I'm thinking of converting to Judaism, any Jews here know why I should?

Not Jewish, but I know that they have similiar dietary laws to Muslims.

You'll be able to drink beer, but you still wont be able to eat bacon!

But seriously: its not uncommon for Muslim migrants to western countries to send their children to Jewish orthodox schools because its usually the closest thing available to keeping their kids in the Muslim lifestyle.

So if you want to fit into a European/American society judaism might be a path of lesser resistence than Christianity, or secularism.

I am Jewish.

You should study the religion before you think about converting.

How come you want to convert to Judaism? I hope it's not because you can't date Muslim girls until they are 18 LOL

Do you pray 5 times a day?

Its not because I can't date Muslim girls until I'm 18. And no I don't pray 5 times a day, though I technically have to.

If you're serious, you've got balls of steel for doing this. I'm very anti-religion but I would have to say כָּל הַכָּבוֹד to you for that!

If your local Muslim community finds out, you will not be popular (to put it mildly).

I'm sure. If it was the other way around, you would be pouring scorn and derision upon him.

LESSER resistance than Christianity??? Exactly what part of society are YOU trying to fit into?

Converting to Judaism is HARD, btw. I'm fascinated by Judaism and try to incorporate SOME traditions into my own life. But I'm not a Jew and as such those traditions don't apply to me. If you're looking to be counted righteous by Jewish standards, all you need to do is follow the laws of Noah. There's no need for you to convert.

Christianity is worlds away from Judaism. All you have to do is first believe that Jesus' sacrifice is sufficient to save you from your sins and then publicly profess faith in Jesus as the promised Savior. Repentance follows as an act of obedience and desire to be Christ-like. Nobody is perfect, but because we are free from the bonds of evil, we feel we should avoid it. It's nice, neat, simple, requires no formal rituals or any extensive scriptural knowledge. It's the "faith" bit people find most challenging.

I enjoy reading the Bible, OT and NT, and discussing it. But as a religion, the point is not in intellectual exercise. Any idiot can become a Christian. The point was never WHAT you know, but WHO you know. The intellectual side is just icing on the cake. If Christianity is nothing but a mental exercise, the would-be convert has completely missed the point.

Good luck on your journey! If you persist in converting to Judaism, it's a huge accomplishment. I, for one, would enjoy reading about it if you're willing to continue posting about it. Converting to any religion is a personal thing, so I'd encourage you to do what YOU feel is right and get as much information as you can.

I might ask him if he couldn't find a boxthorn tree to hide behind, yes. ;)

I would tell him that it's a free country, and that people are welcome to convert to Islam if they so choose.

Do it if you feel like it, but keep in mind that "officially" converting to Judaism is supposed to be a difficult process. I read somewhere that a rabbi is supposed to turn away a potential convert three times to make sure they are serious about actually converting.

From what I've read about the early Christians, it wasn't that easy to just join a church. Because the rituals associated with conversion were public, something like going through baptism basically marked you for death. It wasn't unusual for new converts to wait as much as a year before they were allowed full participation in the church. It was to prevent people from joining up for the wrong reasons, face persecution, and then say, "hey, I didn't sign up for this!"

You don't really have that problem now in most places. But I do sometimes wonder if the ease with which someone can profess to be a Christian has really weakened the religion. Most of us take our faith for granted, and I wonder if we only believe because of society, family pressure, and the like. Once a good thing stops being the cool thing, or it becomes perceived negatively, does it really get a trial by fire and true believers are revealed. I think a larger proportion of us would be stronger believers if we had to live out our faith with guns to our heads.

The only reason to convert to Judaism would be for the purpose of marrying a Jew and raising your children in a Jewish home.

Unlike Christianity and Islam, Judaism does not seek out converts. One is born Jewish, or one is a gentile. Conversion is exceptional, and it is not encouraged. If you believe in the teachings of Judaism, the part and parcel of that teaching is that Jews are subject to one set of laws, and all other people on earth are subject to a different set of laws. Adherence to those is full and complete adherence to the will of G-d in Jewish understanding.

Hello there,

Though I'm neither Muslim nor Jewish, I too have been interested in conversion to Judaism.

It's necessary that you find the answer to that question yourself, as conversion would be your personal choice.

If you do find that Judaism is definitely something that you want to look into, then I suggest you do some research; read books about it (I recommend in particular the books, 'To Be A Jew' by Rabbi Hayim Donin, the book 'How To Become Jewish (And Why Not To)' by Daniel Greenberg and 'Judaism For Dummies'.

Also, talk to your local Orthodox Rabbi; you could find them in either a synagogue or in a Local Chabad house, however you could contact one via Chabad.org and ask them question about Judaism.

Also, watch videos/documentaries about it Judaism; YouTube is a useful resource- my channel in particular has a playlists featuring videos about both Judaism and Conversion (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNjuB4 ... WnSA552Xjg), and a man named Rabbi Asher Meza make a lot of videos about Judaism and is open to converts/people interested in conversion. (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOrRwDkjdICVSwoqEPiHARA)

I hope this helps! :)
