i think it should be more rounded off as a whole. depending on the story line that the show primarily follows. i dont think it should always be just one character that is known for a disability. aka, having a friend or family that also share that label, because when i used to have tv channels, if a show had some with a disability of some kind, they were the only character who was. physical/visual disabilities and handicaps are primarily what is portrayed for what i have seen.
but something i would like to see happen, instead of letting audience trying to figure it out (unless thats a theme of the show), they should include a slide or page at either the beginning or the end of the credits. and inform people what its called, and maybe a small statistic, and provide a source where they can find out more information if interested). thats just my own thoughts on it tho...

i agree with you. it would be nice say in a drama to see how the main character copes with family or friends with a disability as well as doing whatever they do.

having an explanation in the credits of a characters disability is a really good idea as well

To me it seems most times they are never a main character but side ones who get killed off or leave (Like s Addie in American Horror Story or Virginia Dixon Greys Anatomy) so I wish there was more.
