Trigger Warning: ableism, autism cure and pity

If you haven't heard about "Sounding the Alarm: Battling the Autism Epidemic", it's a new "documentary" by Autism $peaks. It's of course about who tragic autism and other stuff you'd expect from that organization.

It is currently on Netflix. Watch at your own discretion. If you want to spread the word about why it's offensive, you can:

1. give it a low rating
2. write a review. Make sure you follow the policy. (focus on the movie itself not other problems with A$) https://help.netflix.com/en/node/9977
3. Vote "helpful" or "not helpful" on other reviews. You can also report reviews you believe are inconsistent with the policy.

Currently the three reviews voted most helpful are all negative ones. Let's keep it that way and make the average rating drop.

Heard about a good documentary that was presented (by the people promoting it) as an antidote to (opposite of) this negative one.
I'm posting in this thread bc. I did a search for an existing thread on this film & couldn't find one.

It was mentioned on FB by Autism Womens' Network: "Vectors of Autism: A documentary about Laura Nagle".
It was 40 mins. long and let us get to know one individual (an adult, no less !) on the spectrum. Thumbs up, go and watch it :)

I'm only a few minutes in and I'm cringing.

The first story about the baby not responding to his parents made me chuckle a bit an I tell you why...I was a similar situation. My grandpa was trying to call my name while I was sitting in a corner, but unlike the parents in this movie who freaked out like it was the end of the freakin' world, my parents laughed and said "I think she's just ignoring you". :P

I just wrote a nice little accurate review... with a 1 star rating. Then I called everything that was 4-5 stars unhelpful and reported them for not being reviews and occasionally for using offensive language. Then I rated everything 1-2 stars helpful.

I proceeded to try to start a petition, but for some odd reason my request wasn't being processed.
