Area 51 was launched all the way back in 2005, when Windows XP was STILL Microsoft's flagship OS. Windows 7 launched in 2009. Area 51 will probably not work with Windows 7 (or indeed any version of Windows from Windows Vista onwards), unless the creators of Area 51 had a time machine.

Hope this helped.

dont ever open a bought pc game without checking if it will run first on the computer,on a site like this:
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
if it doesnt run,and the game hasnt been opened, usualy the shops will accept it back, that is what GAME have told us when buying pc games anyway as they assume am useless with computers and need a disclaimer.

might be better off looking for a free open source horror FPS.
is that the same area51 that was on the first playstation?

Try this:

1. Right click the game .exe file.
2. Select properties.
3. Select the compatibility mode to Windows 7.
4. Select launch as admin.
5. Press Apply.

This should work. If not then you use XP mode on Win7:

Not to go off topic, but if you want anything newer than XP on a machine (and you are into "classic games), you might as well ensure your new OS will run a VM and/or set it up to be a dual/multiple boot PC/laptop.

I have some programs that won't install in a Win7 64-bit environment. I use the XP 32-bit VM mode to use them. For games, I have to install them on the Win XP 32-bit OS side which I must boot into as an option to booting into Win 7.

Heck, I have some games I need something that will force them to run in a windowed mode because they want to go full-screen, and they were not designed for the modern wide-screed displays...even in XP.
