This only happens to some people depending on their personality-I can get really nervous around some people, especially when I don't have time to assess the encounter. The worst is the first few minutes. Sometimes I can hide my nervous symptoms and sometimes I can't. Today it happened and I was stuttering all over the place. I could tell the other person thought I was mentally challenged. Does this happen to you?

Mirrors my behaviour as well, especially with people I meet for the first time. If I can get myself to relax, the words flow much better.

I find it very difficult to meet new people. The better I know people, the easier it is to talk to them (though not always). Meeting new people always makes me super anxious and sometimes I get so anxious that I go "mute" and feel like I can't get any words out of my mouth even though I might want to. So instead of interacting I get really quiet and withdrawn and it's like my brain freezes and I don't know what to do. It doesn't always get that bad when meeting new people but I always show various signs of anxiety.

Yes, it does. It happens even with some of the people I know if I'm not comfortable with them. My movement becomes stiff and my voice becomes shaky as if I'm scared. Some people might wonder what's going on with me if they see me in that state. I sometimes spread my nervousness and tension, and make other people uncomfortable, too. When I try to control my nervousness, some people seem to think I'm angry/grumpy/rude (my serious-sounding tone), which makes them grumpy and me even more nervous. It's a vicious cycle. It makes life very hard.

I think it's partly cause NTs often aren't nearly as good at making "small talk" as they try to make themselves out to be.

A lot of times they'll just stand there like an idiot, and the pressure to make small-talk rests on the other person. One reason I've gotten better at it.

I'm comfortable around some and yet others make me so nervous both my ears go beet red and I'm all tongue tied. And there's no rhyme or reason to it either - not tied to the other persons looks or anything. Just certain people seem to throw me off and I haven't figured out the pattern yet (if it exists).
